** Fighting Error Code 26 **

I bought a new 2010 Orange RZR-s. I ran the diagnostics on it, and it showed an error code of 26 (Vehicle Speed Sensor). I removed the positive battery cable to clear the code, per the service manual. Ran the RZR again, and the error code showed up again. It seems that the error code does not show up at speeds "LESS" than around 30 mph. Over 30 mph seems to produce the error code 26. Not sure about the exact speed, but seems to be in the 30 mph area. I took it to the dealer where I bought it. They did some testing, and replaced the regulator and also re-flashed the brain. I tested again, and still around 30 mph had the error code 26. So yesterday I took it back. They contacted Polaris, and talked to one of the service tech's about it. Polaris suggested to pull one of the new computer brains from a new machine, and put it into my machine, just for testing purposes. I tested again, and still Error Code 26. Dealer contacted Polaris again, and Polaris is stumped, and had not seen this happen. Now the funny part..... I and the dealer ran 3 brand new (less than 4 miles) test on 3 new machines in there lot, and two of the three already had the error code 26 in them. Anyone else having this problem? Seems some new machines do produce the error code 26, some don't. :rm_thumbdown:

My 2010 RZR S is at the dealer for the same problem....they ordered a new sensor, but i was also having problems with my machine running like crap...originally when i hit speeds of around 45mph, the machine shut down and went into some kind of safe mode....the dealer can't duplicate the problem...imagine that.....so im going there 2day and run it to see if i can make it happen.

Mine did something like this also. First day I had it, I would run up to around 3/4 throttle, then it was like someone would reach over and turn the key off, and if I would let off one quarter of an inch it was like the key had just been turned back on, and it would go like $%@#. Only did it the one time.

It seems more and more Error Code 26's are poping up. I wonder if there are actually a whole lot more out there, and these are on new 2010 machines. Taking mine to the dealer again tomorrow to see if they can find a cure. Hey folks, run your diag's, and see if it is clean.

I have the same problem with my RZR 4. I will take it to the dealer to find out what it is. If you do have an answer on the problem please post it. It will be a few days before I bring it in so I would like to let them know what the problem is so they dont keep it for a month.

Out of curiosity I went to the garage and tested my '10 RZR-S...yep; code 26 with 4.5 hrs, 26 miles. Back to the dealer I guess. I'll tell them about the TPS tip and see if they will check the ones on the floor. The Svc. Manager is pretty good to work with.

Waiting for a 2011. Bastards better have this problem figured out by then.............

I posted earlier about the code 26; I took it to the dealer this morning and showed them the #26 on the speedo, we took it off the trailer and hooked it to the computer...NO codes show up! Warmed up the engine to operating temps...NO codes show up. Turned off the engine, went into diagnostic mode and there is Code 26 again! Immediately looked at the computer and NO CODE. Interesting side note...the service manual states that a code 26 is "not plausable" as a troubleshooting problem indicating that whatever code 26 is, it should not have an adverse effect on the RZR. The tech thinks that the act of turning on the ignition, then turning it off/on three times quickly per the owners manual is sending a spike to the ecm/cdi box and giving it a false signal. The popular opinion at the shop is take it out and run it.

Checked two more New rzr-s models here in the dunes yesterday, both had less than 20 miles on them, and both had the "Error Code 26" when Diag's were ran. Last I heard from my dealer was that the Polaris Tech people were going to issue a "Bulletin" to all dealers about the error code. That was in Feb, nothing yet. The bulletin was addressing the issue as -- "At a certain speed, under certain conditions, if the belt slipped a thousandth of an inch, the machine would throw the error code". It would not cause any issue with perfomance..... Do I detect a bit of smoke in the air?

The drive belt? Why would that throw a code when you can throw it altogether and not get a code? Methinks I smell a rat...... :rm_thumbdown:

I have had mine to the dealer for this code 26 also, and they said there scanner didn't show the code when they hooked it up. Whats funny is when I took it in it showed a code, and when I picked it up it showed nothing. Its almost like they just cleared it because they didn't know what it was or how to fix it. We have 6 rzr's in our group and all 3 of the 2010 models have the code and the 3 2009's don't. All of them run perfect too, the only reason I told the dealer about mine is because it was already there for other issues.

The dealer and Polaris can not figure out the problem after 3 weeks of having the unit. Polaris stated to the dealer when they due fix the problem most likely they will issue a recall on the 2010 units.

The dealer said come pick the unit up it seems to run fine short of the error code.

Hey everyone just checken back on the problem and I'm happy to say I've put over 200 miles on it since I got it back from the dealer as I stated on the first page and there is no more problems if I were you guys I'd try playing with the wires to the tps sensor or have it changed

Any updates?

I called my dealer they dont know anything about the error 26 thing, they checked the Polaris web site (guess its a place for techs to go for help?) and their was no bulletin on the error code 26 so he created a ticket on it to let Polaris know I am getting the code 26.

I was surprised to see Polaris has no clue about this code 26 thing.

Hoser, is you RZR running okay?

I guess it runs ok I mean it seems to be, this is the only RZR I have ever owned or driven, I have no idea when the code 26 first happen so all I can do is assume it runs ok.

I have never been able to get the top speed over 60 mph on pavement and 57 mph on hard pack dirt so who knows if its holding it back?

Its kicking out a code and they have a code listed so something is not right, maybe its an anomaly, just a glitch in the system, maybe their is something really wrong will have to wait to see what Polaris says I would think their design department could pin point it pretty easily knowing the whole electronic system inside and out, anybody know the theory of operation for this system?

Just because it seems like its running ok I wouldn't think one should ignore the code?

#28 ·
No I wouldn't ignore the code, but I was asking because other people have reported various maladies apparently connected to the 26 error. I was just wondering.

Dealer called me back and said that Polaris called them and said the code 26 is the computer sensing rear wheels spinning and the front wheels not spinning, so I asked my dealer if I go clear the code by disconnecting the battery then take it for a ride in AWD and get no code 26 all I have to do is put it in 2WD and spin the back tires and it will kick out the code 26? he said yes.

When I get a chance I will test this.

Wonder why they want the computer to kick out a error code every time you spin the rear tires in 2WD?

Has any one had any luck at getting a solution for code 26 yet? I was changing my fluids yesterday and checked I thought it would have code 26 and sure enough it was there. I have had no running issues with it except one time when I started the engine it was running on 1 hole. Shut it off restarted the engine and it ran normal, never happened again. It is a 2010 RZR S.

if its setting code 26 due to wheel spin this could be a glitch caused by a computer geek during the making of the program..remember alot of the guys the make the programs are given a set of specs and they write their program from that they don't drive off road stuff so they wouldn't expect it to have wheel spin...so its probably just a error in programing and as usual alot of you are over reading this as a problem and over reacting... just drive it and sooner or later they will have a updated software program to re flash the ecm.......alot of people on here need to take a chill pill.....the world isn't going to end just because you have a false code.....this happens in the real world alot cars trucks.... that's why sometimes when you bring your car in for service or repair sometime your dealer re flashes your ecm.... with a update...sort of like your pc Microsoft is always installing updates....do you freak out over that and get online and bash them...no i bet you don't even know why or care you just hit install and go on... do the same with your rzr don't spend countless months worrying for some minor thing.....

So this is what the problem actually is or your just speculating, then giving advice based on your opinion?

What did your dealer tell you?

Personally I want a answer from Polaris I paid a shit load of money for this thing, its seems to be a quite common problem, everybody I ask to check their RZR has the same code 26

How hard would be be for Polaris to send each owner a letter of explaniation in the mail they have sent a TON of worthless junk mail since I have bought my RZR I bet they have spent at least 10 bux in postage.....
Its not like they dont have my address and know I bought a RZR-S from them.
