Starting on a skid plate install but I have one problem the rzr I have didn't come with a skid plate at all so I don't have any of the factory hardware has anyone had to replace or purchase more of the reseed washers? Can they be bought at say a local fastnal or hardware store? What about the bolts any info on them would be awesome my plan is to kinda get started on it and that it think will help me put together a list of what I would need. But I thought if you guys had any input that would be very helpful! Also if anyone is using what you feel is better hardware I am always open to new ideas.. FYI I have a welder and am not afraid to use it LOL:):) Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!!

Use the 1/4 x 28 "self threading" bolts. I get them at the local Ace Hardware.

As you get all the hardware together and get ready for your install....

Position the skid as close as you can to the position you want. Use clamps, jack stands, whatever to get it positioned.

Most importantly, then use tape to hold the domed washer in the recess and drill through the hole in the washer. This way the hole in the frame is centered!! My dealer didn't do that and every washer has had to be opened to be a slot or ellipse for the bolt to go through.

Put a thin coat of anti-seize on the bolts before running them in. The anti-seize will help the bolts come out when you take the skid off for maintenance.

Just thoughts...

Thinking about it, the domed washer protects the head of the bolt from getting busted off. Only a couple of my domed washers show they have been dragged across rocks or whatever.

So a fender washer that fits the recess in the skid and has the right size hole for the bolt will probably work fine.

Thanks to everyone for your help I ended up making my own domed washers and completed the install of my skid plate last night. I did put alot of thought into what you had said pirate and I do think that the domed washer could be a lil over kill and in one spot I do just have a 1 1/2 inch fender washer that I didn't turn into a domed washer and really feel like it will be just fine time will tell won't be till next summer this thing really gets to see rocks though

Ya it's super nice to have that skid plate installed I bought the rzr not even knowing they came with a factory skid and always thought how stupid it was to be completely exposed. So check one thing off the winter project list. I'm going to rebuild the top end of the motor soon and I am seriously considering your air box mod I love how clean it is the only thing I'm debating is if I want the air box in the bed or not. Really no other place for it and I know FOR SURE my motor will not run again in the summer with the stock setup! Great thing about winter though NO DUST!!!!! :):):):)

If you follow my design, the air cleaner is in the left side of the bed. So you can use a Lock N Ride box and have the other side of the bed for other things.

Now, having routed the air cleaner duct to the left side of the bed, it would not be that difficult to run the Spectre Performance 3" aluminum duct up, add one more elbow, and mount the air cleaner across the back of the roof.

Something I thought about, but since I have a Seizmik rack on the back of my RZR, it wasn't an option to go on up to the roof.

I found the skid plate bolts at Menards.

They are 6mm x 20mm coarse thread flange bolt. They are not tapered like the Polaris ones but fit great and are cheaper and more accessible for those of us not close to a dealership

I am posting this in multiple threads since I had to search a bunch to find the info while in the store.

My machine is a RZR 570 and the Polaris part # is 7518529

You know, we've been working through another post...using Rivet Nuts, mounted into the frame. Then you have a very nice "nut" permanently mounted in the frame tube. This way the "self threaded bolt holes" made in the frame won't ever go bad.

Take a look on Amazon for the Astro Tool 1442...just got mine today. Looks very easy to use and looking at the Rivet Nuts...will work great!
