Great questions! I was wondering the same thing? Do you lose any power/performance with the one that makes the cool noise :)? Is this safe to run in the snow and rain? I am not a deep water guy but i ride year around in WV so damp conditions are common. Thanks for feedback EVO.
Power is the same between the BOV and BRV. You can run the vent to atmosphere "BOV" in the snow and rain. We have a outerware prefilter installed over the valve to prevent dirt, debris and weather from entering the valve. It is fine in these damp conditions provided you don't submerge the vehicle above the clutch cover.

Just to clarify, as long as water is not over the top of the clutch cover there would be no probs using your BOV? So if water is halfway or 3/4 way up the side of the clutch cover there is no issues?

Yes, that is correct

Finally got my XPt back from the dealer for warranty work, which means I was able to install my BOV valve!

Install was cake. The "hardest" part was removing the factory hose clamps. Which means the rest of the install was easy-peasy!

I fired it up went around the block and almost immediately noticed a lack of boost. I contacted EVO and spoke to Jim, who suggested I re-check all the fittings and components for leaks. I also removed the BOV and insured the spring was operating correctly; and after doing so, noticed the spring and metal plate inside was almost stuck closed. After pushing the spring several times it seem to free itself up and function fine.

So I reinstalled and took her around the block. I put the pedal to the floor then let off and PSSSSSST, she worked! Approximately 50 miles later she is still singing a beautiful sound.

I am very happy with the product and that you Jim for your time on the phone!

I look forward to your clutch parts in the future.

I am glad everything is working correctly!

does the non-vent to atmosphere sound cool?

Do you really lose any power with the vent to atmosphere vs the other?

Is it only the guys that submerge their vehicles that need to stick to the non-atmosphere type?

What about the occasional deep water crossing?
Power is identical between the two. If you are crossing water that is over the clutches that you should use the Recirulation Valve instead.
Can anything be done to the BOV to make it safe for water crossing if you know you will encounter it on a particular ride, or do you just put the stock one back on for those occations?

I will look at making a remote location installation kit. It will be fairly easy to do. I just need to find a good location to mount the valve. I will keep you posted

X2 I don't ride in deep mud but... Would just feel better with my bov relocated!!!

So I looked at a BOV relocation kit and I will have something made up here shortly. FWIW, you would have to be in REALLY deep water for it to be an issue with the OEM location of our BOV. The OEM location is just below the rear bed above the clutch cover. You would have to be submerged in over 2' of water to have a problem. I know some guys mud bog and this will be an issue but I think the OEM location is fine for 90% of the average riders

Evo, is there ANY way installing your BOV could lead to burning antifreeze? Does the turbo use the engine antifreeze as its "liquid charged aircooler" system?

The Bov can not affect the cooling system. The air charge cooler does use antifreeze but the most likely cause is blown head gasket. Particularly if you have white smoke. You can pull a spark plug and look to see If one is really clean, it will usually be obvious if it been burning water. As much as I hate to say it, looks like it's time to take it back to a dealer.

Oh ya i didn't hesitate to shut her down and get her back. I just wanted to cover my bases if for some reason the dealer calls me back and tries to say the BOV caused the failure. We all know its highly unlikely, but if its at all possible i have to try and get out in front of this before its too late.

I agree its most likely a gasket. But I didn't put a plug as i took it in right away.

Thanks for the response.

Catattacksdog - I hope it works out for you. Stories like this are why i'm not going to rush out and modify the engine of my $25K machine! For me, the whole point in buying the XPT is because it comes "upgraded" from the factory compared to the n/a XP1K. I would be sick if I had a blown head gasket on my new machine! I read about guys with brand spanking new machines going out and getting their ECU flashed and i'm like :scared2:

A blow off valve shouldn't harm anything - the only thing it is doing is replacing a plastic valve with a metal one.
