mine does that too !

 

Mine does too 2013 900 le we. Buddy of mine had timing jump on his bike. Timing chain tesioner runs off of oil pressure so at startup chain is a little loose till pressure builds up.that is probably what u r hearing. He installed a manual chain tensioner and don't have noise at startup anymore. I plan on instlling one asap so mine don't jump time.he said install was simple.but cant remember the name of company that makes the kit.will have to get back with him.

Any idea what's involved in installing one?

 

Buddy said they were easy to install just take out bolt on tensioner and just screw in new bolt that has a screw in the middle of the bolt and a jam nut on inner screw.to adjust u loosen jam nut finger tighten inner screw then half a turn and tighten jam nut back. He said it didn't take long at all.

Don't want to be bearer of bad news but mine was doing the same so I took it in for a service and told them to check it out. Long story short. Engine was done. 370 miles. New crate motor. So if your under warranty still it's a good idea to get it checked out.

Mine lightly rattles at start up (a second o two) after sitting for awhile, not using any oil, runs like a champ

 

Mine sounds like crap for just a second when I start it up cold but once the oil gets pumping it sounds super smooth, runs awesome too. My diesel does the same thing, just takes a second for the oil to get circulating. Not a big deal. I keep my oil changed and clean and it does not burn any oil at all as far as I can tell. Actually now that I think about it it really only sounds clanky when its cranking but smooths out as soon as it fires

Idk mileage but it has 70hrs

 

2013 xp 900 with 500 miles has what sounds like a loose rocker arm noise at start up...the noise only lasts for about 2 seconds and then all is quiet, and it only happens when it hasn't been started in a couple of weeks...if you start it up everyday or so there is no noise...is oil leaking back down away from the rockers and they are dry on startup?...any ideas on what it is and if it could be a problem....thanks in advance...

Your XP 900 has double overhead cams, there aren't any rockers so that can't be the noise your hearing...:scared2: :scared2: :scared2:

Lack of oil between the buckets and cam lubes...

 

xpred558 I have less than 500 miles.

 

I hope everyone keeps us updated on this so we can see what the problem might be. Even if there is a problem.

mine did it I added a pint of lucas oil treatment in mine it solved the problem,if u use synthetic oil make sure u get right treatment.

 

it is the cam chain tensioner. What ever you do don't rev it until it quiets down a bit.
