I can't understand why the ECM would switch that? Can you just add the relay and switch it manually?

 

Here is a quote form the manual maybe this will help.

When the switch is pushed to activate the TURF mode a ground signal is provided to the ECU from the AWD/2WD/TURF switch.

Depending on engine speed and gear position criteria the ECU energizes the rear diff solenoid relay allowing it to enable the differential solenoid.

It seems they have a criteria to be met before they allow it to be switched I bet its something like the criteria used on the front differential for AWD keeps you from slamming it into AWD with tires spinning preventing damage.

 

I wired it according to the print in the service manual so yes it may wind up with it's own switch. The only catch that I can see is that the solenoid needs power on it to activate the turf mode but it also says in the book not to apply power to the solenoid for more than 1 sec. so this must pull in with a full 12 volts then drop to a lower voltage to hold it in and not burn up the coil.

 

Yeah, that would be tough to do manually. It's a pretty deep question, but I've never heard that the stock ECM has that ability.............

 

Do you also need the international version of the ECM?

 

I thought they were all the same..isn't that what is causing you know what:shhh: (code 26)

What pins are you hooked up to at the ECM? You do have it wired like the diagram on pg 10.6 in the service manual correct? Swicth provides ground to the one wire to the ECU(looks like pin 26) when turf is selected and that wire is grounded..then the ECU energizes the output wire(pin 13?) going to the solenoid relay. Provided you have met the gear/engine speed criteria.

 

I have been thru the manual several times and have not found anything yet, all I can guess is that the ECM needs to see something before it will allow the solenoid to pick up but I have all 4 wheels in the air and running and nothing. The 2WD and the 4WD work but the rear diff solenoid still won't pick up ???
Maybe it needs to be in a certain gear, that's about all that I have not tried.

 

You do have it wired per the diagram right? Hoser can you post up that page?

And I am going to guess it is just like the AWD..must be in high/low or reverse..

 

What year international wiring diagram are you using my manual has both 2009 and 2010 diagrams I dont know if they are different just want to be on the same one as your using.

 

I worked on this a bit earlier and what I have found is that the ground signal is not coming thru the ECM module and if I bypass the ECM and ground the relay the solenoid picks up now I need to confirm what is supposed to happed to the voltage within 1 sec. I assume it drops to a lower voltage once it is pulled in. And if this is the case where is this being accomplished in the ECM or the relay, hopefully it's in the relay as this could be easily resolved. I have the name and # of the manufacturer of the relay so I will call them tomorrow and see what they can tell me.

 

Are you meeting the conditions required by the ECM before it will allow it to lock, I assume its the same criteria required by the front differential, if not your probably not going to see the ground from the ECM until that is met, can you test ride to test? I am sure you will feel the difference between locked and open just by turning.

 

Agree about meeting the criteria..which I can't find in the service manual..maybe down load the intl owners manual.

I'm confused though..because the manual says the "ECU energizes the solenoid relay"...doesn't lead me to believe the ECU is supposed to send a ground signal to the relay. But then again the service manual is VERY vague about that whole system.

 

The voltage undergoes a pulse width modulation in the ECU which reduces it by 70% the relay is just a simple relay ( no magic ) You are right the service manual is vague on several points. I will put it on the ground and try it, maybe this ECU needs to see something that is not evident, I sure hope so as I'm out of guesses.

 

I tried it today ( road test ) and it still will not pick up the rear coil. the ground signal is going to the ECU but nothing is coming out to the solenoid ? ? ?

 

You need a knowledgeable Polaris tech's help IMO. The parts fische says the ECUs all have the same part number...BUT I just looked at the Polaris part number printed on my RZR4s ECU...and it is NOT what is listed in the parts fiche! I did a part number search for the number on mine (4013177) and nothing came up.
MAYBE if it is an ECU programming issue a dealer could flash the international program via digital wrench...BUT then again there is always the possibility that Digital Wrench/Polaris either won't give a US dealer access to the intl program or it won't allow it to upload based on the ECU serial number?? Again...I think you need to sweet talk a tech savy Polaris tech who has digital wrench experience. JMO

 

I think you're right about the ECU, something is different. Also I have called Polaris and they won't even talk to you all they say is contact your dealer as they are trained pros, so I called several and they honestly don't have a clue about what I am asking them. Also the part # on my ECU does not match the part # in any of the Polaris parts break downs. And I looked at the ECU part # for several different machines and it says that this ECU fits almost everything they make which I find hard to believe.
Is there a Polaris help tech line anywhere ? ? ?

In the power off state the rear end is locked, I have momentarily put power to the relay and it worke fine and energizes the solenoid so yes it is in the locked state right now. Everything seems to be working as described except for the output of the ECU which is producing nothing which leads me to believe that possibly there is a problem with the ECU or it simply requires a different one. Like I said before I don't believe every model uses the same ECU as I checked the part # on mine against the Polaris # and it's not even close so I really think that this is the problem area.

 

i have the eu model rzrs with turf mode,i will find out what part number the ecm is and let you know.

Spoke to my dealer today he quoted part no-4011599 this was for a 2010 rzrs.Hope this help you.

 

If you look at your ECU it has a sticker on it...it will most likely have a different part number on it that what is shown in the parts fiche that your dealer is looking at...

 

This is the P/N listed for all machines and mine has a Polaris P/N 4012227 which nobody can I.D. ? ? ? ? So if anybody has a spare or used ECU P/N 4011599 please let me know as that looks like my next try.

 

Scooty that number(4011599) must be a generic number for the parts fiche...mine doesn't have that number either and the number mine has(posted above) isn't in the fiche either.

I think that might be a generic # look at the actual # on yours located behind the seat.

I was told by many members here that this could not be done.

Sounds to me like you proved some wrong.

 

Now that I am waiting on my diff to come and I am going to be in the same boat as Scooty on this, can someone tell me what the AWD/TURF switch looks like.

Is it a 3 position rocker?

 

It looks like the switch that you have now but it is a three position. I have one if you want it CHEAP ! ! !

2009 service manual pdf has a wiring diagram.

2010 does not.
