E-Track placement

I am looking to add E-Track to my wood deck utility trailer. I’d like to install it as wide as possible for use with either tire bonnets or a lasso style tie downs.

If I were to set the center of the etrack at 4.75 inch outside the tires is that too much for bonnets?

Would the lasso tie downs allow for a wider placement?

I want to maximize the space between the tracks.

Will be hauling an xp4t on 16’ x 83”. I calculated 4.75 to be the mid point between tires and edge of deck.

Thanks

My e-track is mounted at 52" center to center to accommodate all my different widths (50", 62.5", 64", 72" cars with different tire and wheel combos) plus avoiding existing d-rings in floor. I use wheel nets almost exclusively, having never tried the lasso style tie down. Sometime (like a 72" car with wide sand tires) the track is as far from the tire midline as you are describing, but inward. The wheel net doesn't fit right in that situation, but it works. I secure all four corners.

The lasso style look like they would be more forgiving in the situation you describe, but I've never used them.

A couple tips to share.

Once you have the machine secured loosely at one corner put it in neutral. Finish tying it down at all four corners then shift back to park. When you don't do this you are putting a lot of pressure on the parking pawl as the wheel net tries to reposition the tire. Having ratchets oppose each other (front of two tires and rear of the other two) helps keep the car exactly where you stopped it. More important in tight enclosed trailers/toy haulers. This also decreases the pressure on the pawl if you forget to put it in neutral.

Kudos for trying to do it right. Its become a game for me and my boys. I ask them what's wrong with a given tie-down set up and they try to figure it out. So many have no clue what they are doing when it comes to securing their cargo. So often they are a single ATV strap failure from having a UTV in the backseat of the tow rig.

Looks like a good option for wood deck trailers. I have an aluminum trailer with no tie downs on it and have been using straps from the front tie down points on my XP1K to the rail on the trailer and same in the back. I would prefer to use tire bonnets as I think they are more secure and easier/quicker to put on. They also are not affected by the suspension when you tie down the car. Not sure I want to install the E Track all the way up the trailer - was thinking about two D-Rings for each tire to attach the bonnets. And last, what kind of bonnets are those and where did you find them? Amazon literally has hundreds to choose from.
Thanks

There is really no wrong answer as it all depends on the size of your trailer and what you use it for.

I set up the "front spot" for my RZR and went horizontal so it can tow whatever i want. Even if i get a new machine or tow my brothers 4 seater, just grabbing the front tires and securing the rear with straps is more than solid. I also liked going horizontal so i could grab many boards versus a single board. I drilled and used bolts with plates underneith. Its overkill IMO for a sxs but i also tow equipment and attachments.
