OEM..get a Polaris belt. JMO it's one of the few consumables / maintenance parts that I don't suggest using an aftermarket part. If you are deadset on aftermarket look at Wasteland belts

I killed a OEM belt by 50 hours, replaced it with a wasteland belt, have about 10 hard hours so far with no slippage.... Find out how good it is in the next few months

OEM over EPI's severe duty belt??? I was gonna buy one of these as a spare off eBay over the next couple of weeks but thinks I might go OEM if everyone is recommending it…

 

Yep i think ill do the same and buy OEM belt i just tought there was something better but as i see theres not thanks a lot guys... Changing subject a little is there someone using the airaid snorkel intake and if its worth the money because i just got it delivered and im installing it today

 

Let me know how the install goes and what it's like. I ordered one a few days ago and I should get it hopefully before xmas (live in Australia)

Is everyone buying the OEM belt at Polaris dealers or is there a better place..? Cost?

 

My dealer quoted me retail at $258... I found it on line shipped for around $175

 

There was a guy that had like a dozen( why I don't know) new 2012 belts selling them in the classifieds a while back..he may still have some. I think he was asking $150 each..I took a chance and bought one and it was legit.

How hard are the belts to change on the XP? Never really looked at it. Did a belt swap on my buddies 09 800 and it was cake..but I know it's completely different for the XP.

 

Even easier...same principle but easier to get to..look up under the left rear fender..pull the cover, use the tool to spread the secondary..remove belt, replace belt..put the cover back on..

Everyone has there own opinion. Been running the gates carbon from Hunterworks for 400 miles and no issues. At $89 each they are a low cost alternative to OEM.

Ill be running the Gates belt here in the dunes next weekend! Ill be happy if I can get this belt to last longer then my others. But those were stupid Dayco's. I was lucky to get about a trip and a half out of those. Dont buy those even if your on a budget. Talk about crappy. But I was sent 2 of them to try out then they changed their part number. New part number made no difference.

Ill be sure to clean the clutches and break the belt in to see if I can get a longer life. Should be interesting driving around on the street to do some heat cycles to try to get the belt/s to last longer. I do now have Holtz HD billet mounts kit due to having a broken trans mount. I must say I didnt know it was broken till I went to remove it. The kit is a very nice and well put together. Really hoping this is my belt breaking key to the puzzle.

 

Outside a cheap belt if you are eating belts like a stock one then switching to a Gates is not going to stop it, you have a issue or a driving habit that is doing it not the belts.

The Gates is a great belt and less money than the OEM.

I started using the Gates carbon fiber belt middle of this summer. Have several hundred miles on it mostly in the dunes. Has performed well.
We ride hard most of the time, and are not gentle on belts. Just got back from St. Anthony dunes, and the dunes there are very large and put a lot of stress on the belt and had no issues.
With my experience so far, I would purchase the Gates again.

 

I can't give you specifics but with over 300 of just XP 900 belts sold since April I am sure a good many of them are in the dunes. Actually I would say most because most people found out about them here.

I put a gates on my xp and just put on 400 miles in the desert and it worked great. I pushed it pretty hard too and never blew I'll keep using them.

I have about 220 dune miles on my Gates and it looks like it's never been used. I will be putting a lot of miles on at Dumont on Halloween weekend and will post up if there is something to be said. :ride:
