Does a rear screen reduce dust without a front windshield?

I don't have any windshield or anything on my Pro XP4. Seen several people comment that a rear screen will help a little bit with dust, but it's all been from people with front windshields and figuring out how to break up the vacuum/vortext that forms in the cab after adding a windshield.

Will a rear screen do anything for dust control if I'm not running a windshield?

It doesn’t seem to hurt, but didn’t run very much without the rear before adding it. I have the SATV flip up windshield with my rear Double Ott panel and don’t have a major dust problem in the cab. It stays the same when I completely remove the windshield for dunes riding or closed on cooler trail riding. I will say any thing in the cargo area gets a heavy coating of dust though.

I believe there are a lot of us are interested in what combinations are working. Please folks, lets put together what we're doing whether it works or not. Currently I'm running the Polaris half windshield, no rear screen or window. I've got both Polaris boxes which I keep installed, fender extensions on hand, but not installed, as well as inner doors (all Poo accesories), not installed, btw. Getting tons of in cab dust, even with the 'drain holes' taped over. I'd like to try either the rear window or screen, just don't want to blow $$$ on stuff that doesn't help. Anyone else care to chime in?

I ran 1/2 OEM Polaris windshield 1 day on my 2020 XP Pro 4 - no windshield, but I do have a roof and the dust in the back seat at end of the day was significantly worse than without it. Next day I took it off for ride in same area (ocotillo Wells) and had far less dust in the back. Have not used it again since.

probably throw on in Dunes next season as there is little dust.

I am interested to see what combos are working for people. Good thread

Any window or screen will cause more dust. You stop the flow through air. I got rid of mine and I have wind wings on my Rzr1K for the last few years. I have 18K on my Polaris. My wife, the dogs in the back and me come back as clean as we left. We don't get dusty anymore. If you ride on someone's tail then nothing will stop that dust baring a full enclosure. .

I found the rear "mesh screen" to help add "back pressure" and reduce the back seat dust. With the screen and the spare both back there, it back to being reasonable. Rzr pro 4

On my old 1000-4. The super atv full windshield that folded 3 ways, that was great even without a rear screen

I would think a full windshield and a rear window would make it super dusty! But who know for a screen, I'm curies to here how it works with the full windshield and the screen in the back.
Keep us updated.
Not really what I have found is if you have a full windshield and a roof and a rear it’s not bad. You will get some through the open spaces especially in the rear seat area but not noticeably more than without anything. What I found was the worst was front full and roof. That combination made for a super dusty cab. Adding the rear window knocked the dust in the cab significantly. I still get some but is minimal. the only way to completely eliminate dust in the cab would be a full cab and sealing the gaps.

What I will say is adding a roof and full windshield made the cab heating issue very noticeable but with the front window open I don’t notice it. That is where the flip up is nice since to keep the cab cool on hot days.

FWIW, I was down at my local dealership to pick up a spare belt, and they had the Poo lock and ride rear window on hand. They also sell Super ATV products, and gave me prices on their clear and tinted windows. After looking at the install vids, and considering I had a $250 voucher from Polaris, I went with the Poo window. I put on ~30 miles last evening, mostly dirt trails and forest roads and the rear window/half front windshield combo seems to work quite well. We're currently very dry around here (as in DUSTY), and my ride varied from crawling speeds through some 50-60 mph. Without the rear window, the cab would have been loaded before, but looking this a.m. it is actually quite clean (other than some mud balls from the front tires). I'll get some miles on later today, hopefully with less dust! As far as heat, there is still a good amount of air movement, so didn't seem any worse, except perhaps when moving slowly. This window doesn't seal up the back (which I'm fine with so far), although it may have been stored on end at the dealership and deformed slightly. For cold weather riding I'd likely work on getting tighter. BTW, I have the UTV Zilla aluminum roof. Happy Independence Day weekend all!

I don’t run anything. I prefer being able to see what’s going on in front of me and I prefer the airflow. I bought a half windshield and used it once but my girl is short and couldn’t see well so I removed it. It helped a little with keeping mud out but not totally. Still get what’s spraying off the tires

Well I ordered and received the Kemimoto rear mesh screen. Didn't realize when I ordered that it is supposed to loop around the rearmost horizontal roll cage piece, which is blocked by my roof. I haven't installed yet...debating if I want to just attach it to the sides and skip the top, or return it.

I stole these two photos from the Amazon reviews for the screen.

Here's how it's supposed to go. The area circled in red is where I won't be able to put the bungee straps.

There's another good review from someone who skipped them, so it looks like it may work if I want it to.

We put another 100+ miles Saturday, and we're quite happy with the results. Very little dust in the cab, Wife's hair wasn't packed with dirt which she appreciated! I am going to try it without the front windshield soon, but I'm pretty sure it'll be going right back on. If you look at the rear panel in cab, and the seat backs, it's pretty clean compared to last weekend. Very happy with the results. Still curious on how the rear mesh screens help!
