Don't trust your stock cage as you could get your self or your passenger hurt bad. Here are some pictures from a roll over.

Saw that, does he want to tell us how that happened?

Yeah, what happened? That looks like a 50+mph roll into a wall. Nasty crash. Glad everybody is OK. Figured they're OK, or something would be said to the contrary.

On any given day anything can happen!!! Oh and yes I do trust that when your # is up it is up...On any given day...As far as trusting my stock cage...don't know? As far as trusting on any given day...still don't know??....If we where to play it safe...we would do nothing...
Its like they say a little work never hurt any-one...but why take the chance?

Thanks for sharing all of these pics.

Would you care to be more specific on how the driver was driving this when it rolled? Was he power drifting a sharp turn at 55 mph and it just gave out and rolled, or what exactly happened?
I'd like to get a cage at some point, but right now, the money has to go elsewhere, so I like to learn as much as I can, to increase my chances of NOT testing my stock cage :)

Thanks Fellas.

Ok. Gotcha. So it was one of those tasty looking berms that we all want to hit to catch some air, right?
Let me guess, the face of the "bump" or berm that he launched off of was shorter than the wheel base of the XP? Thus causing the back end to buck up high and violent enough to cause the roll....?

I hear you on a better/stronger roll cage. In time, I think it will come. With the prices they are starting to charge, I sure wish that area was the ONE thing they would step up and improve. They can still have all their 25 different warning stickers saying this vehicle isn't meant to be raced/jumped/protect in a rollover, etc etc. But just give us a stout roll cage please....

I must have just been lucky. I put mine over going UP a hill climb, if anyone has truly tried, you know how steep a hill needs to be for a rzr to come over backwards. I landed 25 down at the bottom upside down hard enough it went back over onto the tires again. My cage held up, radiator and mounts, not so much.

Looks like the same junk Polaris makes the rear swaybar out of. You can't build a high performance machine that will survive everything, but it is amazing that a 70+ mph UTV has such a weak cage.

One of my best buddies did a slow endo at the dunes and the cage folded like a piece of junk. He and the passenger were ok, but that's not the point. Only had one ride in my xp before adding a full chromoly cage.

I have rolled in testing on a MX track (only side to roof roll) with an aftermarket cage collapsing the cage resulting in a concussion from helmet to cage contact. We also have laid the stock cage over (rolled over 10 foot berm) with no issues. The fact is its a dangerous sport and anything can happen at any time. When the first razors came out in 07 everyone I had access to for development had been rolled at least once. Most of those were rolled right of the trailer in parking lots. My advise is to look for cages braced for impact in any direction because when it happens you don't get to pick where you are going to hit first. Don't buy what looks the coolest; big arches are only strong in one direction, tubing stretches on the outside and compresses on the inside of a bend leaving the tube-structure weak from any direction other that a direct impact from the top of the arch. Be sure the material it is built from is quality material DOM or Chromoly (seamed tube is good for fence posts and bumpers). Last never ever drive over your head; If you drive what you think is 80% of your capability all the time you might not ever have an issue. None of us are a good as we think we are.

Well put !!

I have seen many rollovers with our machines with stock cages. Did every cage survive unharmed NOOOO.. Did every cage protect the people in it ? YESSSS. I was actually impressed with the stock cages. When I look at them, and see how thin they are, and the way they are designed, I would never expect them to hold up as well as they did. I just thank God that they held up as well as they did. And I am also thankful we dont do rentals anymore, but only tours !! I do think aftermarket cages are a must when driving these machines beyond polaris's recommended use for sure. Especially on the 900 XP . There is always a fine line in what us customers should expect for our money. For the price we pay for these things (especially out west ) I do think a stouter cage should be included. But they tend to get our money any ways lol Glad nobody was hurt. Be safe and have fun . By the way, I have a really nice cage for sale in the for sale section :ride:

Its not a true roll cage if its not welded in. The stock ones could stand to be stronger, but I'm not entirely sure that's the manufacturers responsibility and it would cost them a lot more money. Thus the reason car bumpers are rated at no more than 35mph impact when cars go much much faster. Its really no different since there are more automobile accidents per capita than side by sides. There may would be some opportunity for convertible style loops at each seat like F1, Indy...

It would be interesting to know what constitutes ROPS certification. I'll bet its not much.
