Deep water with a RZR-S

How deep can you go in water without a snorkel kit ?

You can go to lowes and spend about 60 bucks and make your own snorkel just as good as one you can buy...there are plenty of instructions on this forum to show you how...

When you get your rzr look underneath the bed in the middle towards the seat and you will see the intake for the motor..

As said above spend a little now and save a lot later

Your engine air intake is located between your seats at the top margin of the removable "firewall". That is the technical depth limit....however, I never go above my seat bottoms (and that is usually not intended when I do!) to be safe. As mentioned above, moving water is different. Your concern is more with getting swept downstream. I have been pushed sideways a bit in about 10 inches depth in a stream that I didn't consider flowing really fast.

Good answers Robin. Thats about right for depths. Also note this. I know for a fact, that when you hydro-lock a RZR engine, (or any engine for that matter) you have set up a hairline crack in a connecting rod. It will break in the near future and destroy your engine. Snorkle it, or find a shallower crossing.

There is no guarantee that any engine that ingests water will have cracked rods....so please don't spread false information. I am by no means advising people to wash their cylinders out with river/lake water!! But I've sunk a bike or 2 in my day, and seen some others sunk on several occasions with no ill effects, so lets not freak people out for no reason.

That said, I think I agree with the seat bottom as a good depth chart.....but that's pushing it. If you think you might encounter some deeper water, I would just snorkel it and be done with it. The RZR 800 is the easiest machine ever created to snorkel! And they look good snorkeled if you keep the risers low and stealthy.

personally i would not put mine in water over the floor boards,
but if you are going to often,
best be safe and snorkel it,
and also it puts a buyer beware if you ever try and sell the rig with a snorkel kit,

Excellent answer, Wolfen! The fact is that even going only as deep as the floorboards can/will cause problems further down the line because, by doing so, you're necessarily flooding a whole bunch of electrical connectors, switches and circuit-breakers, and they'll start corroding the moment you get out of the water and, typically won't short-out until sometime later; right at the worst moment (not that there's ever a good time to have electrical problems/failures). My two-bits........

P.S. Another thing to consider come time to sell or trade your RZR, I would NEVER even CONSIDER buying A USED RZR that had been submerged above the center of the wheel-hubs, cause I'd know that, sooner or later, I'd have problems with it, for the reasons stated above.

Cheers

I would also say waist deep is as deep as you would want to go. However, the issue I had was that the clutch cover leaked where it mounts to the engine and filled with water. That was at about floor board level. I have since sealed it up.

Frank, you got lucky. I did marine engines for 25 years. I saw a lot of carnage from a flooded intake pipe in high seas. A 3208 Cat would break rod and keep running! An 8V92 Detroit would hurl chit and debris right through the block and lodge in the hull! This lightweight construction in our machines is somewhat less forgiving. I'm just trying to steer him into snorkles or shallower crossings. All is good!:ride:

That's the point of snorkeling. To raise the intake/belt piping to allow deeper water without sucking water in.

I rn mine the same height as the cage. I figured if I get that deep I'm drowning so ill be safe there lol

^ exactly y I didn't cut mine off at the cross bar . I'd be over my head to drown mine and at that point I have bigger issues like oh breathing lol.

I extended all my vent lines up with the snorkles

If you not sure go ahead and snorkle it. Then you never haft worry. My rzr has lived in hood deep water since day one. Now has almost 1000 miles with no issues except normal wear and tear stuff. Have had hole rzr under water with just cage sticking out and it still pur like a kitten.
