Trees are sneaky! I did this last spring with just 4.7hrs on the new 2010 RZR. Had to replace the frame and A-arm. Just getting use to posting pics, thought this might be a good one to post.

That sucks! BIG time! I know the feeling. I rolled my rzr within the first few rides of owning it. I fractured an A-arm that broke weeks later while riding.

So you had to replace the frame!!! Man you must have hit hard! ... well I suppose the frame isn't thats strong to begin with.

If you don't mind me asking did you do the work yourself or did you take it to the dealer?

I have a lot of policies with Allstate - cars, motorhome, homeowners, motorcycle, and the off-road policy - so I get hefty multiple-policy discounts.

My off-road policy has two 2007 Grizzly 700s plus the 2010 RZR, and it's $232/year.

Definitely shop around. I had a brochure sitting on my desk for Polaristar insurance, handed to me by the finance person when I bought the RZR a month ago. I was going to call them and get a quote - but looking at these numbers, I just don't see how they could beat it.

From the statement:

Total Premium
Premium for 07 Yamaha Grizzly 700 $66.67
Premium for 07 Yamaha Grizzly 700 $65.37
Premium for 10 Polaris Ranger Rzr $100.59
TOTAL $232.63

Coverage:
Liability for bodily injury: $100,000/person, $300,000/accident including passengers.
Property Damage $100,000.
Medical Payments: $10,000.
Deductible: $500
Optional/Added Equipment: $1,000

Before I got this policy, one of my riding buddies rolled a Kawasaki prairie 360 down a 60-degree slope into a tree. Totaled it. That accident cost us about $4400. The ATV was worth about $3600 (used replacement value at the time), plus $800 for the helicopter to air-lift it out. I salvaged the aftermarket wheels/tires, which fit another ATV ($650 value) and sold some of its parts online for a few more hundred over the last couple of years.

I asked Allstate whether this policy would cover the helicopter service, and they said it would.

I just can't imagine not having the insurance now. $100/year with $500 deductible to insure a RZR that I paid $16,000 for after taxes, mods, etc.

Oh, and I talked briefly with Geico. They wanted a lot more. Call Allstate.

Damn. That says a LOT for the EMP bumper!! It sure held up well, considering the other damage. Too bad you didn't hit the tree square center; probably would have ridden the rest of the day, then home.

$144/year full coverage on bike +3500 accessories with progressive. It used to be cheaper but when I totaled my brute force it went up a bit...

Make fun of roadside assistance all you want. I've had them bring me gas to the nearest road and my buddy rode out there to meet them...

Thanks guys, you reminded me of the need to follow through with my insurance broker. We're now using Allstate for all of our hard line (homes, cars, etc...) needs.
My wife works for a major insurance company here in the Hartford, CT area, but they no longer cover hard lines.

Insurance Broker said:
...the cost should be around $125.00 per year.
This will give you $100,000/300,000 in liability coverage,
$100,000 in property damage coverage,
and a $100 deductible for damage to the ATV itself.

Your umbrella policy will bring the total liability and property damage coverage to $5,000,000. The umbrella will also get an adjustment which will bring it up about $12.00.
You would be insured to ride it anywhere that is legal.
Shop around and please negotiate. Don't put your deductible at such a high level that it doesn't make sense to submit a claim.

That must have been one hard hit... and "Yes" those trees are the worst kind. You know, the ones that you can see and then all of sudden they jump right into you.

Can't speak to the "child" part of it but if the person is a "permissible driver" meaning I have given them permission to drive the RZR, it's covered.

Is it different if they're underage? I suspect that if they were under the age recommendation for the vehicle manufacturer, there might be some issues, but I don't know. I don't have kids and don't let other people's kids ride my stuff so I never looked into it.

Is this officially a threadjack yet? :)

I wasn't making fun of road side assistance, I just thought it sounded funny. And you really got them to bring you gas? That's impressive!

But ya'll did get me to thinking--so I called my insurance agent (State Farm). I'm paying $235/year for full coverage with a $500 deductible, including medical. He said it would cover damage if someone else was driving it, even if they were underage. But, he did stress that this would probably vary from company to company. He said it's kind of a gray area, but they would probably cover it.

And, yes, I think this thread is officially :hijacked:

Maybe time for an insurance poll?
