crankshaft position sensor with oil on it

I'm in the process of checking my timing because of a rough idle and backfiring on deceleration. Pulled the valve cover and and cps, and the cps has oil on it. Is this normal? I wouldn't think so, but would like to get verification. If not, what would I look for to replace? Engine only had about 500 miles and has a manual tensioner already.

Yes it's normal that side of the engine cases are open to the timing chain and the stator is a wet oil bath system ,
check your air filter mine was doing that and my filter was dirty

Also run some injector cleaner thru your system ,my dealer told me to use the lucas, most gas has ethonal in it and after sitting for a bit tends to gum up the works. Sea foam also works good

I also noticed oil on my crank position sensor. Could someone double or triple confirm that this is normal? Making me kinda nervous that a seal is leaking. BUT, I did read through the factory repair manual and I only see a crank seal on the PTO (primary clutch) side and NOT on the mag side (flywheel side). I also think my oneway bearing on the starter gear is shot, so I'll be pulling my flywheel off to check that out. I guess I'll find out if there's a mag side crank seal then.

Thanks in advance.
