I tried to check my compression with the $40 tester from autozone and i got a reading of 90psi on both cylinders. the bike idles and runs great. I was just checking as a precation and something to do. It is an 09 rzr le with about 650 miles. The manual sayes the service limit is 150-180. I only got to do each cylinder once and i ran the engine about 10 minutes before checking to warm the engine up. On the 2nd cylinder it blew a whole in the hose to the gauge. I also cant be positive that i got the hose tight on the adapter because i could not get a wrench on it so it was only hand tight on the o-ring. My question is, wouldnt i notice an oil burning smell or even see smoke, or a situation where it would not idle or something if i truly had a compression of 90 psi or does it sound like the tester was crap. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick response. I ran back to the zone and gave them back their tester and bought a new one and got 178 on one cylinder and dinner is ready so i will go back to check the other later. I caution everyone to watch out for the loan a tool becuase when i compared the tester to the new one it was missing the o-ring that sealed the adapter to the head down in the spark plug hole. I was loosing compression to the tester right there. All is good and mine has apparently never sucked anything but clean air. I will look into a leak down tester and do that next. I saw plans for a home made one online and harbour freight has one for about 40 bucks.

get a compression tester from autozone or advance auto about 40 bucks. You will remove you spark plug make sure to unhook both after the engine is at operating temp. and then you will thread the 14mm adapter into the plug hole until it seats. then hook up the gauge and holding the throttle wide open crank the engine over 3 or 4 time or until the guage stops going up that is what your compression is. Repeat for the other cylinder. They shoudl be close together. For the rzr you should be between 150-170 and a rzr s 165-185 for the 2009 rzr's. I hope this helps.

You do it hot because the engine runs... when hot. Also the piston rings may not be sealed up their best when the motor is cold. Thus giving false readings.
