Still curious for your opinions, but in the mean time I got an EPI primary clutch puller from my dealer. I received a text from them for $10 off a $25 dollar or more purchase. So all in with my discounts and taxes I'm at $28. Works for me.

I did my clutch kit still in the machine. Obviously had to pull the secondary for the helix/spring change.

Is it possible? Yes.
Perhaps in extreme situations on the trail it might even be necessary not to remove the Primary to make a repair.
Would I ever take that approach to save myself the $40 of a clutch puller? No.

Surely you can borrow one? You don't *need* to use the compression tool if you don't have that, but it helps a lot.

I've never had a problem with primary removal. I did a whole video about the shit-show that was my secondary however...$125 later on a slide hammer...

I did mine with the primary still on the machine was easy. The secondary was taken off, i do recommend the compression tool for the secondary but i did do it with out one. You'll need a very heavy duty set of snap ring pliers that ring was prob the hardest part other than that damn clutch cover lol. I think I had mine apart cleaned up and back in an hour maybe an hour and a half tops.

I'm still not a 100% sure how these primary/secondary's work...but who the heck designs anything with the word roller in it and includes a square piece?

At the same time...I'd like to think the engineers know more than me, but Todd's photo is proof of wear. When I pull mine I'll check it out. I'll also post up a photo of my homemade clutch compression tool.

Watch some You tube videos - they help understand the clutches. The primary you can up grade on the rzr, like others have said, you need to pull the secondary to replace the spring and helix. One thing to remember, the clutch has marks on it for balancing and you need to put it back together the way it came apart. I sometimes use a black marker to mark all surfaces so it's easy to line back up.

I have an SLP clutch kit on my trail. I had to remove the secondary but not the primary. Since my kit comes with adjustable weights it would be a real pain to keep taking the belt and primary off every run while getting it dialed in. The safest way is to back every other bolt out till almost out then remove the remaining bolts. When you do this it won't spring out on you and the pressure is light enough you can push it in with your hand and remove the first bolts you backed out. When I do this I don't even take the wheel off.
