Very good idea, we sell the Gates Belts the C12 and they and we recommend using a scotch brite pad and brake clean, spray it on there use the pad to scrub it and then wipe it clean with a clean rag and more brake clean.
But, while your blowing all the dust out of your primary clutch:
Make sure the three rollers that the weights bear on will roll smoothly.
Make sure the rubber (?) spacers on either side of the rollers are in good shape.
Make sure the spider isn't getting grooved by the rollers.
Check the bolts through the weights are not getting worn on one end. They'll let the weights rub on the spider and damage it.
Check the bearing and make sure its still turning smoothly.
Keep in mind that the Primary clutch acts like a fan. It draws air in from the air box blows it through the CVT housing and out the exhaust duct that's located right above the throttle body. Thus the Primary clutch is actually a "consumable".
I blow mine out with compressed air, then clean the sheaves with brake clean on a rag, then sand them with 400 grit or scotch bright pad, then I clean them again with brake clean. Don't use any thing on them that will leave a residue. Also I clean my belt on hot soapy water.
