Me and a buddy chopped the top 6" and added some extra bracing to my cage. We added a sound bar too with 2 8" wakeboard speakers driven by a pyle marine amp. I plan to add 2 more speakers on the kick panels too.

Someone on another forum did the same and gave details on how he did it. This looks much better than the oem cage style.

I would like to do this but my welding skills aren't good enough to trust welding a cage back together. Something that can save your life and all. Plus it prolly wouldn't fit.

It'd be a good side job for someone though if you think about it. Buy s couple stock takeoff caged on eBay, and chop Them. Then sell the cages, and give people a core charge for their unchopped one. I figured someone would be doing exactly that by now, but I can't find them.

Looks good. Did you just touch up the weld area with black spray paint? Or have to re powder coat the whole thing?

If anyone knows somebody with skills to do a similar chop in Northern California, please send me a PM!

I don't have equip or skills to do it, but need to lower the total height to fit in a garage.

Thx!

Hobbs what are you using to weld the cage back together? Stick welding, mig or tig? And what size stick or wire are you using?

Also what kind of metal is the stock cage made out of?

I think I'm getting ready to chop mine...maybe....

Also when you cut the back section out and set it up to be welded...does it bind in the front any? Do you have to do any mods to the front to get the back down far enough to fit?
