Buying a used rzr 1000XP checklist.

My buddy says to stay away from used 1000XP's like the plague due to all their issues... What would one check for outside the normal wheel bearings, tie rods, ball joints, bushings, brakes, etc.

For example below are a few things I know to go wrong on these things...

Front diff sounds like marbles
Cam Tensioner failures
Carrier bearings go bad
Driveshaft out of phase
Reverse Chain issue
Eats belts, primary and secondary clutches are junk and or they need to be aligned, some eat belts because the clutch area gets too hot.
Voltage Regulator goes bad

Anything else I missed on these rigs that goes bad? How would I check some of these things besides listening and visually inspecting the clutches for wear?

My brother in law can't afford a 17k new rzr xp1000, but he can swing 13k for a used one. I told him look for one with 500 miles or less. He doesn't want to be wasting his time tooling on a rig. He owns a ranger 800 that has been rock solid for 4 years. Just changes the fluids and rides.

500 miles through the mud verses a couple thousand on dirt roads, I would take the dirt road miles any day. I bought a used one, once. It only had 25 hours on it and never been in the mud. It now has over 3,000 miles on it with no issues, original belt and bearings. However, if I could swing 13k, I would consider just going to Abernathy and for 1.5k more I would get a new one.

I would look at the oils , engine, front different and transfer to see if they are dirty .I change my oil when it starts to get discolored probably I go overboard ,but this comes from racing motocross where you change oil after a race so you might have 40 minutes on your oil , if it's taken care of ,not beat up .I wouldn't worry I have 2500+trouble free miles on my car ( had a dirty fuel filter) got some bad fuel from some where was the only problem I've had and can't blame the car for that.

Unfortunantly I am in the great white north and rzr 1000xp sell for 17k here new. 14k is the price of rzr's around 2014-2015.

Here are the two in question.

Pretty sure this one has IBP shocks, but does not have rebound adjustments, just compression on the shocks. Everything else is nicer.

Stock 1000XP have compression and rebound adjustment on the shock bodies correct?

Both have fairly low miles.

No the shocks on both machines are going to be compression only on the adjustments for rebound you have to get them revalved, the 14 should be walker even shocks and it loos like the 15 is a fox addition
I don't know how the riding is up in your area so if on the slower side, mountains trails etc. Stock should be fine the 15 seems a little pricey but looks like a clean machine

Yeah, the fox edition has the nice PRP bench seat which is nice as he has a couple kids and could take them out when the wife doesn't come along. The owner on the fox edition will come down to $16,500... But that's still a lot of money on a 2015 machine. Granted you are getting a lot and its a CLEAN looking machine.. But it is 3 models old now.

If he was selling the fox in the $15,500 range it would be sold. I have a feeling since it's a "special model" he wants more since they only made them in 2015. I know the PRP seat is $1000 to get up here. I looked at doing the same thing with my 800s and eventually just went with the bump seat instead.

I guess I will call the dealer today to see what new 2017 models are selling from here. I have a feeling they are still around 17k.

And yes, rides are mountains fairly slow... Usually 20mph or less.

Right now popo is giving good rebates on 17''s. On popo's Web site the msrp on a stock xp1000 is
17999.00 on a new 18 so a new 17 should be down about 16.000 with the rebate,
When you sell a used car you don't really get much from the accessories you install they just make your car sell easier if there are others with less on them, your style of riding the stock suspension would be fine
Down here in the deserts we're doing 70+thru miles of whoops so shocks get a good massage and aftermarket springs

I'd buy the fox edition. Better suspension , digital display, click 6 harnesses. Nice machine . I've always had good luck with buying used. The 2 new toys I've bought in my lifetime have been the biggest piece of crap I've ever owned . 750 brute force and a 16 model xp1k. Both have spent more time in the shop than on the trail. I guess I buy Friday toys when I buy new

Anyone come from an 800s with dual rate springs from racertech and move up to a 1000xp? This one came available and I'm debating on giving the wife my 800s and upgrading.

My 800s now has 13" of clearance up front and 11" in back and I think it rides great now. Just curious if the suspension on the 1000xp is that much better at low speeds. Mostly under 20mph driving for the most part.
