If the TPS is just a potentiometer it doesnt make sense for the resistance to change while it is sitting still and the cable not moving.

 

by ten points do you mean 0.10 volts?

maybe the shaft it is connected to is worn and loose, or the bushings that hold it.

 

Im going by what the MCX display shows. Not sure if thats in volts.

 

Hopefully the TB is not worn out with 1200 miles:sad:

 

Oh, check with Trey at MCX. I think that is a percentage or something. I think it does jump around on the digital display.

 

I talked to him this afternoon, It may be a bad TPS. They are not available seperatly though:sad: Before I buy a TB I was wondering if anybody else has seen this.

 

WOW, they dont offer the TPS separately? You're kidding me! I have already put one on my sportsman and it has less than 700 miles on it. I hope that was a freak thing.....

 

I have one but you need to check for slop in the throttle shaft. If there is any slop in it, it will cause the symptoms you are having. I have had it happen to me, but it had more miles on it than that. The voltage numbers jump around, and it was hard to get it to repeat the correct number, and caused mine to run too rich most of the time. Shoot me a PM if you end up needing it.

 

I will post a video of what my display shows tommorrow and also test it with a voltmeter. I am getting the thing ready for Snakehunt in Oklahoma and dont want any problems. It easier to fix them at home than in the dunes:ride:

 

While you have your meter hooked up grab the throttle shaft and try to detect any looseness in it. Watch your meter as you try to move it. If the number changes much it will cause issues.

 

you can buy one for an 08 sportsman, it is the same part and they sell it seperately

Here is the same test with a volt meter hooked up. Trey at MCX is the man, He has a spare TB he is going to send me to test. According to the different writeups on here my tps is out of adjustment. I have never touch it and this thing isnt even a year old.....and it sat in the barn since october. Make me wonder if it was ever set right.

 

i'm not quite sure about that meter, but if it were a voltmeter i would say bad. with the motor not running sweep through the range and verify it climbs and falls smoothly (shouldnt jump at all) if you cant do it with that box, do it with a voltmeter. if it jumps around it's bad

 

after watching the second video with the meter, your tps is fine (may be a little out of adjustment), that box on your dash is picking up noise it looks like

 

it looks ok to me.. just set a tad low.
