Debating 32s here....anyone have input for XP1000?

I have found traction to be very similar with both of these tires...but the Crawlers are The tougher tire of the two...ie more sidewall problems with the Carnivores. Also, as far as versatility...the Carnivores are better in the snow/mud, and the Crawlers are better in higher speed desert type terrain or rock crawling. I am refering to the XG version of the Crawlers...not the XR version. The XG's have dual compound rubber.

Just my Experience.

I think a little more info is needed along with people’s experiences with running 32s. Big difference between running a larger tire if you are averaging 40mph on open trails or averaging 20mph on tight woods trails. I personally feel the XP is geared just low enough to run most woods trails in high range and I wouldn’t want to lose that. I suppose the ace gear reduction would set things straight if it turned out to be a disappointment, but I’d rather know from the start if I’ll have to tear into the tranny or not. Reason I mention this is cause there’s a recent thread about running 35s on a stock Turbo and several guys say they’re doing it no problem, and I just don’t see how that’s possible to do that and then run in high on your average East coast woods trails with good results. LOL.

I have a 2015 HighLifter and have been running with 32" tires for over 6,000 miles over the last 2 years. Rig has 12,500 total miles averaging 17 mph mostly riding in the desert/high desert, all on a stock clutch. I have had no belt issues but have changed them when I noticed cracks beginning on inside groves around 5,000 miles. On my third belt, from Hunterworks much better than first 2 stock ones. NO REGRETS!!
The only issue I have had, not yet addressed in this thread, is with wheel bearings. I have gone through 9. 2 so bad I had to replace hubs. All has been covered by my extended warranty! I have been greasing them when installed and with LOF changes and they do last longer but still seam to go bad eventually. I have wheels with 4-3 offset that may be contributing to this issue. I will be getting new 32" tires soon and plan to get new wheels with 5-2 offset hoping to help resolve or at least slow down the bearing wear. Curious if anyone else running 32s has had bearing problems. Is the offset the solution?

Are you running upgraded bearings with the single thick washer at 180 lbs of torque? I run 4x3 offset with 2” spacers on 32’s and carry over 1000 extra pounds of weight and don’t go through wheel bearings at all.

I have been kicking around the idea of larger tires (same width all 4 corners) for some time. I was wonding - those who ride at higher speeds - did you notice a difference in the performance from a stop to top end speed? with the added roating mass - I question if there is a big performance drop in those running 30-32' tires.

Thanks

I don't mind losing some performance, but I don't want my 1000 to run like my 800 did. I also don't want larger tires turing into a snow ball effect of uprades after upgrades (clutch, wheel bearing, belts, transmission, engine tuning, etc.)

I put 32" BFG KM3's on 100 miles ago and love the extra ground clearance and ride of the bigger tires. Of course with bigger tires comes more weight so it will rob a little power but mine still gets up to top speed faster them my 1000 S did and i had 30" tires on it with air filter, exhaust and reflash. I love my 1000XP Ride Command Edition. Still planning on air intake, exhaust and reflash and this one too though. Really opened up the power on my old S.

I ran a set of 32's for 83 miles, had noticeable power loss in high gear. Low was ok. Figured I would have to do a clutch kit at a minimum to be happy with the high range performance with the tires. Maybe a gear reduction. I'm one of the lucky ones whose 2017 xp1000 clutch has never given me a problem in 2700 miles. I sold the 32's and went with the same tire in a 30 inch. Got most of my performance back, enough to leave the clutch alone. So put me down as regretting trying 32's. These were the Braven berserker cross x tires they measured 32.5 on the machine and weighed 47lbs each.

I like the 32’s overall but run low range a lot more now. The change from 29-32 is effectively 12% higher “gearing”. The XP1K has lots of torque so even with stock clutching performance is OK. I lightened my stock weights after a few rides. Not a fan of clutch kits but a lot of them work well although they may require additional tweaking. The last one I bought from a local dealer that had the setup dialed for our elevation.
The best solution with 32’s is to gear down to get back to stock. That would require 24% on pre spring 2017 XP’s since Polaris geared the XP down 12% sometime in early 2017.

I run 32” outback max for my trail tires and have had no regrets what so ever, and since then I now mostly run 35” BKT’s and went with a 3P clutch kit. Which pulls the 35’s really well but I will say that set up is a little to low for the 32’s but can be adjusted easily.

No-one can really tell you whether or not 32's are worth it -- it all depends on your riding style and what you do with the machine (i.e., do you want to go fast on relatively smooth trails or do you need clearance and generally drive slowly on rougher trails?).

If you do go with the larger tires, it would be prudent to at least do something with the clutching or gearing. I'm pulling 34's with a clutch kit and portals yet I don't usually go very fast and I generally ride rough trails where clearance is needed.

Don't listen to me, though, I'm just some random guy on the internet.

I put 32’s on my 2015 rzr xp1k. We rideTaylor Park every year. I still have stock clutch, stock belt. I did notice a small power lose but I don’t race so no big deal. I don’t baby it when I take off I get up on the sheves as quick as I can. It made a large difference on the ride, I went with the 14 inch tires, old school, they ride better at lower psi. Won’t go back.
