likely a wheel bearing I just replaced mine with the popo HD bearings.

 

So on their new pro xp they put in cheesy wheel bearings that go bad right off the rip, and sell "hd" bearings as an option? Man that's downright shameful..

 

So a wheel bearing goes out after 26 miles?

 

seen many comments about the front wheel bearings lacking any locktite from the factory being the cause......mine were stuck in there pretty damn tight even without loctite. I got one quick ride around the neighborhood after i did the front and the popping was gone.

I did it myself although i am still under warranty the local dealers are booked up for the next several weeks, and i wanted it done before i head to Moab.

 

So you ordered new HD bearings and pressed them in? Front and back? I've done it on my 800 but not a brand new machine.

 

I did order all new HD bearings and pressed them in. Was it necessary? No, but if i am going to go to the trouble of pulling them just to loctite them i figured i would put a "better" bearing in there while i was at it.

 

The issue is not usually with the wheel bearing itself, just that they need the retaining compound applied, you can reuse the same bearings.

Other than the noise is there any reason to do anything with them?
What I mean is are they causing damage to something other than the bearing itself?
I can't hear myself think most of the time and don't think I'll ever hear a popping bearing.

 

Probably will cause premature wear of the bearing carrier itself, and could cause a squishy brake pedal if they get loose enough

 

3 out of 4 bearings were shot on mine when I installed the HD bearings... Had about 500 miles

 

On mine i could hear a popping when turning and it started to develop a constant squeak from the front end, but i could not feel any play of significance when jacked off the ground. But if i know of a potential issue i prefer to fix it early at home instead of letting it ruin a ride.

 

It started only when I turned left, 4 miles later it's popping when I turn both ways. Kinda makes me mad and paranoid, this is a brand new machine.

 

Yeah probably wheel bearings. Taking mine into the dealer to get fixed, they told me mine’s the third one they've had in.

Started making noise a 100miles. Had to haul it to the dealer 3 times before they figured it out.

I called the dealer, its 3 weeks before they can takenit and will have 2,3 weeks. I just ordered the HD bearings and do it myself. But just to be clear locktight on the outside before I press them in correct? And thanks for the help.

 

Clean the knuckle good with some scotch pad, wipe the bearing off as it will have a protective oil film on it. Apply 603 to knuckle and outside race of bearing. Press in. Make sure to wipe all 603 that pushes out off, you don’t want it getting inside the bearing.

 

Last question, what size fitting do I need to grease the bearing ? I have a 40 and 44mm I believe. You guys have been very helpful, many thanks!
