Michelin had a project for car and truck tires like this, but it seems to have been shelved. Bridgestone is working on them, too. EnergyReturnWheel in Boulder, CO, is working on mountain bike tires like these.

Seems problematic in picking up rocks, mud and debris that would degrade performance and throw them out of balance. Supposedly you get real soft vertical compliance while maintaining good cornering.

Curious to see what develops and when. ATV/UTV does seem like a good app.

From what I have read previously about these, great for low speed industrial/construction use. Subject to vibration and instability at higher on road speeds ... at least I think that is what ended the Michelin project.

Posted from my Droid with Tapatalk ... sorry if my response is short ;)

This is freaking BA. I've been giddy to be able to own a set of these ever since I've seen them in videos showing testing on military vehicles.

Whatever problems these currently have, they will be engineered out.

This is the future of tires on all cars. ATV application is the perfect 1rst step.
