2013 RZR 800 Not Used Since 2017... What's Needed

Hello all,

Thanks for taking the time to read this post. Still a newbie here and again, hoping this is the right area for this post.

I have a 2013 RZR 800 EFI that I purchased used in 2017. We have had quite a few fun rides with it up until it was last parked at the end of 2019 when Covid hit. It has been stored in my garage ever since. Eventually the batteries died (I have created another thread regarding the install of two new batteries if anyone is interested.) so the most excitement it has seen is me pushing it in and out of the garage when I needed the extra space.

I'm still new to riding so I do not have the full know how on these machines, mine in general. I am fully mechanically inclined, but again still new to these machines.

A little bit of history. Since I purchased the machine back in 2017 from a dealer that took it back with only 1380 kms from the owner who did not like the sport. I first replaced the oil with Polaris PS4-5W50 oil and Polaris filter as well as the antifreeze coolant (green). Ever since, I have only done the regular oil changes, again with only Polaris PS4-5W50 oil and Polaris filter and greased after every ride. The current mileage on the machine is about 3800 kms.

So my question... Since my RZR has been parked for quite some time, what should I or need to do to before hitting the trails once again with my RZR? In addition, the drive belt is original. It has never been replaced by me or the previous owner. I was not too concerned cause of its mileage. But now that it sat for some time, I'm wondering?

Thanks!

Parked since 2019? Unless stored in a harsh environment, I have the feeling it will be fine. In addition to the new batteries, I’d put in fresh fuel. I might pull the spark plugs, put a bit of 2-stroke oil in each cylinder and turn it over to make sure everything moves. Put the plugs back in and give it a try. Slow at first. Listen for trouble. Check for leaks.

Hi MN1965. Thanks for the reply.
The storage environment is quite decent. My garage is well kept. Heated in winter and cooled in summer. I will defiantly follow your advise!

Thanks!!!

In addition to draining and replacing the fuel I would add a little sea foam to clean up the deposits in the fuel system from sitting. If you decide to put a little oil in the cylinders I would use a spray bottle to mist the oil in, myself I would use the same oil that is in the rig to do this. One last thing after starting I would allow the engine to get to 160+ shift to each gear for a few minutes at idle and then take it for a drive slowly and heat everthing up before operating at high RPM. Hi and thanks for the reply SeaDog.
I actually have already drained the fuel a while ago when I ran out of gas in my John Deere tractor (lol) the first winter it was parked. I will definitely run some sea foam at first run. Great info you shared! I will follow it. I forgot one thing... I will edit my post... The belt is original. It has never been replaced by me or the previous owner. Thanks!

When I take my RZR out of winter storage (about 6 months), the belt has always been a little "clunky" for the first few miles. Kind of like flat spots on tires. It smooths out pretty quickly. It may be time to change the belt anyway, but I doubt that passively sitting there did any damage to it.
