Hello everyone and I look forward to getting information on what the RZR world would like to see on a RZR-S that is built not only for function but for looks. I have worked in the automotive world for the past 5 years and did some great project builds, I know SEMA very well and I am excited they opened the doors to Powersports.

This year we are doing a build for the RZR-S to be shown at SEMA and I would appreciate any constructive ideas on what the true enthusiast loves to see on the RZR they ride. We are going to keep this vehicle very Polaris looking so we will NOT be changing plastics or roll cages, and not swapping motors out or changing other very distinctive Polaris characteristics.

The items we know we must acquire and install are the 'go-fast' items (i.e. turbo, intake, exhaust, clutch. etc.) tell me why I would install a Boondocker over a MC-X or vice versa. We want true education so tell me why one exhaust or clutch company over another. For accessories let us know why one brand of harnesses, tires, wheels, etc. that you would love to own. I will keep everyone posted along the way with photos and who and why we decided to go with certain brands.

A special thanks to sponsoring companies for making this possible, especially: Warn and Polaris.

welp not much for me to add here to this thread, but I can tell you any Rzr owner who wheels their rig will want a gas tank skid plate/protector and a coolant temp gage at the very least

Poo has left these two items off the 08, 09 and now the 2010 models, personally I am a bit shocked these made it through R&D without gas tank protection. Even our 2005 Poo sleds with a single dash gage have a coolant temp reading.........its nice to know when you are 75 miles from your trailer that your Rzr is not overheating.....

They did get a parking brake onto the 2010 models, so you dont need to add one of those!!

my other vote is PUT THE BIGGEST TIRES YOU CAN STUFF on that Sema S, 31's? big tires = ground clearance and looks great!!

You could bling it up with billet everything...
UTV Crap and other site supporting vendors have websites full of bling!

Throw in a loud thumping stereo for SEMA.

I would also put on lots of LED and HID lights for that kind of show.

1. lighting......hid's are a must have might add a light bar and also mount some hid's in it...
2. bigger battery......a oddesy 925 fits in the stock battery box...or cut it out and get a battery tray and use a optima car battery.
3.volt and water temp gauges..and you might also want a wide band air/fuel gauge to mess with tuning....
4. like said befor some big tires and fancy rims.....
5. ckutch kit... dirty dawg performance seems number one.....epi and dalton also up their
6. seats....sevrall suspentions types out their
7. pipes... for look a nice ceramic set of loney tuned duels look and sound as bad as they come.....
8. powercomander or a upgraded ecm unless going turbo.
9. said turbo....only one mc-x has alot of them out their and well spoken of
10. the bigest badest stereo you can get....
11. long travel looks sweet
12. lots of bling their is also a sweet insterment cluster from dakota digital

Wow! What a bunch of great information so far, it is fun to see everybodies input and I am surprised no conflicting reviews over one brand or another. I am going to sum up what has been said and what we are in the process of getting done as we speak.

Turbo - Yes, it will have one. It appears Boondockers will supply one for this build. I can only wait to see the MCX comments , let them come as I am curious why they own the market as well as they do...who knows perhaps we go that route eventually.

Stereo - Oh yeah it will have one and it will be a shame that we will never be able to take the system to the levels we want during the show due to sound regulations. The unit will be a roof mount system.

Tires and Wheels - We are lining some very well known names in the tire industry, and it looks like it will be 14" wheel but the tire is the unknown at this time (whoever comes to us with a great agressive pattern will win that spot)

Seats - Tough decision here for us lots of options and I have not heard why one brand is better than another. We can NOT have a bench seat with how our turbo is going to be installed unless for some unforeseen reason we go with MCX instead of Boondocker. Anyone dare say which seat brand we ought to have?

Pipes - nice thinking Johnnycat with the ceramic Looney's you mentioned, should go great with a turbo. Any brand of pipe we should stay away from?

Clutch Kit - I will do a thread search and see which of these three we will go with (Dirty Dawg, EPI, and Dalton)

Battery - We were thinking Optima but I have heard if you drain it completely it is a throw-away (is this true?) Odyssy seems to have a great name, it would be nice if the engineers in MN just stocked the machine with a great battery.:).

Gauges - Dakota Digital has what I consider the best looking unit available, I have seen the UTV-1500 they make and it would be sweet if all RZRs came with this setup.

Suspension - On this unit we are leaving the stock suspension set-up as the vehicle needs to maintain some Polaris aesthetics.

Billet - We are not sure how much we will be putting on, I do know it is easy to put way too much bling on vehicles though.

Crazywatson - if the green hornet wants to be on display at SEMA we can probably get it done, due to the slower economy a lot of space has come up available. It would be an outside display and not in a booth just lined up with quite a few other vehicles for others to drool on and to photograph. PM me if you are serious about wanting it there.

417 - sweet guage, was that one of the first ones out of the factory? I ask because you don't see many of them.

Thanks again for the input and please keep the info coming.

FYI, I saw some interesting wheels in this past month's Offroad mag for and OMF write-up, I'll scan in later. They took the stock RZR-S wheels powerder coated them "gun-metal grey" and had OMF machine in beadlocks and added black scalloped rings looked trick and original. I personally liked them about as well as any wheel I've seen.

I also saw some seats for the RZR that I've not seen before that looked good, made by Simpson, which is good stuff.

Simpson Racing - The Pilot Seat from Team Simpson

Comes in several colors, the one I saw were red/black. I also like the Beard seats. Check this out, page 7 on the catalogue:

SPEED INDUSTRIES - Catalog

Dave,

If you guys get a chance, I'd like to go back up to St. Anthony with your RZR S with the BoonDocker turbo, and do a comparison.

AUSSIE I'd love to take you to SEMA all expenses paid, but I am a chauvinistic pig and if I'm paying she's going to be one of the E. Canada beauties!! The girls from Montreal all the way to Halifax are some of the greatest ever!

Troybilt Thanks for the seat comment, it is almost impossible to find the Simpson seats on the Simpson website, personally I think the Speed Industries are the better looking seat. I am in talks with Simpson about restraints and they are looking at getting us the seats (black/red) for this unit and that would be sweet, the branding Simpson has done over the years is as good as anyone in the auto industry.

Jason End of next week would be best for us for a side x side comparison as we are fine tuning everything now. I need to show the radiator vents we have cut on the laser and get your input as we are really excited to see the difference. When we go we will get some video footage as that will help a lot of people on this forum to understand the pros and cons of each setup....we are going to have to run similar tires or we already know the outcome.

BigMike I'm tempted to take the bet, not because I think we are faster but because I am addicted to gambling! :hat1: His ride is definitely fast and performs great @ the dunes...actually Polaris should have him as a factory rider because my buddy that went up with us (who already has a Rhino, sandrail, and bike), saw Jason's RZR-s perform so well that he went out and bought one the next day. Jason is doing his part to keep the industry alive.

Dave call me next week and let me know when you want to go. Tire wise, lets plan on running the big horns for comparison. Also, have you guys look into the possibility of building a heatshield for the gas tank area? Were you guys able to match the pattern in the front for your radiator cutout closer to the factory one, then the one I have installed?

Mike, I'll pass on the nos, last thing I need is a blown motor :). Ya I took Dave out last week for a ride, it was fun. His buddy is a nut on a bike, but he showed me a perfect roller. I was hitting it at about full throttle (probably 55mph). We flew forever. Oh, and on the way back to the lake we almost got hit by a flying atv. I'm starting to think I'm a magnet for those things.

We sent off various components of the turbo to our local plating and coating company and after some research we went with a high temp flat black cerma-chrome (sp?) Anyone with a more knowledgable understanding of the cerma-chrome feel free to fill me in, the coating really should cut down on heat dissipation.

Im out on the ceramic crap, too many junk coatings out there. The only one I found over the last 15 years of looking that did work well was A temp coating from Swain coatings outta New York. The rest worked A little flaked off early, some lasted but didnt hold heat, etc. This was on turbo setups not aspirated. All stainless construction on headers.I make my downpipes out of aluminum that was the real test for coatings Swain was the only one that stuck to it,and worked very well. The only downside is its white in color.I am assuming the EGT would be close, some of my turbo cars did see 1800 plus temps(stick cars)we started making those kits outta inconel.I am going to coat my stuff still cause it looks good for A little while.

Noodles - Like you coatings eventually aren't going be there mostof the time but for the while they stay on it looks great and performs well. The cerama-chrome should hold up well the plating shop uses in quite a few applications at our local D.O.E. site and great reviews so far, so we will see.

Crnacnac - That is an amazing seat company, I had never heard of them so thank you for the heads up. So many options on seats and right now Beard and Twisted Stitch have our interest the most.

Special thanks to Dakota Digital for working out a tremendous deal on the best gauge in the industry!

Boondocker has been installed, stop by Jason and check it out and when we have a free evening we will run up to the dunes.
