1000XP Must Have Upgrades

We purchased a 2016 XP1000 this last weekend. We opted for the Electric Blue which wasn't in stock, but we will be picking it up in 2 weeks. We've had quads in the past, but this will be our first SBS. We opted for the Half-windshield, UTV Lower Doors, 4500lb Winch, & I forgot the brand but its the hard plastic roof with forward facing LED's, the built-in Bluetooth with speakers and interior cab light.

I'm looking for input on the type of upgrades which will keep me from getting stranded. I'm already reading post's on clutch upgrades, clutch fans ??? axle upgrades, a-arms, air intake kits, fan bypass kits, ect.

I know I'll need to begin assembling an emergency kit such as LED flashlight, Fire extinguisher, scissor jack, air compressor, and jump starter, ect.

I guess what I'm trying to get at is I already have one money pit (Race car) in the form of a 1991 Mustang, not looking for another. The RZR purchase is meant for fun, but I want reliability. Any and all input is much appreciated

BTW, we are out of central Oklahoma and are looking more at trail riding, some river bed fun, and some riding at Little Sahara but not so much all out dragging in the sand

I agree with some of the upgrades, I would like to know the same answers, I know everyone says cage and seats, trail riding is what I do and the best thing that I have done is high clearance parts, radius rods, a-arms, and a set of tree knockers. Just my 2 cents. I'm not sure what some people do for a living but the amount they spend on customizing is crazy.

Full skid. The stock skid is a joke. My dad had a branch come through the floor of his ranger. It didn't hurt him but if he had been going fast it could of messed him up. Here is a pic of my stock one.

And definitely get insurance. [emoji1474]

I would recommend a shock spring kit.....big difference in ride for not too much money. Shock therapy rear tender springs and 4 cross over rings make a big difference for approx $400.

Basically stock, they are too stiff in the rear and too soft in the front......this kit completely changes that and makes it adjustable.

Also might consider a manual cam chain tensioner if yours make racket upon startup.

Don't worry it's amoney pit just like a drag car. We bought our Fox Edition to use as a tow vehicle for our race car. Than came the add ons.
1. spare belt and 5/16 socket and stubby ratchet.
2. rear light bar, can't see when crammed in a trail at night
3. snorkel kit in case we find a hole while riding in a creek (saved it this past weekend)
4. front axles (they are week)
5. A-arms
6.radius bars
7. skid plate

That is the must haves to me. Nerf bars, windshield, rear glass were all good investments. But the 7 items above were needed to keep from having a bad day of riding.

I am a trail rider in Ky. TN and some in WV. First I tackled the weather; front & rear windshields, roof, rock sliders, lower door panels, cargo box, 4000 lb winch
In the box - spare belt, ball joint, tie rod end, compressor, flashlight, tire repair kit & fix-a-flat, tools, oil, coolant, recovery strap, bungee cords (various), duct tape, zip ties, spark plugs, rain gear, gloves, etc... And yes the very first accy was an extended warranty, followed by the immediate purchase of good insurance. Good Luck with your new rzr, enjoy!

Great lists. I put harnesses, winches, and skids on my rigs first thing. We have UHMW, Aluminium, and layered sets with both for the ultimate impact underbelly protection.

We never use UHMW for a-arm guards because they're not rigid enough for our liking. The vertical parts flex too much and sharp sticks and stuff can get by to easily.

It really depends how you plan to ride. There are a lot of upgraded "parts" that people will talk about and that's all fine but most people don't ever need any of that stuff. I'm not saying you won't, you might depending on how you drive it and where.

This is my second rzr and this time around I went ahead and got the lower door inserts and the roof at time of purchase.

After that my first purchase was harnesses just because they are more comfortable than the stock seat belt and they do add protection for you if you wear them properly. Truth is a ordered these ahead of picking up the RZR so I had them on day 1 too.

Second I purchased a winch because these things are not atv's and you won't be pushing them out of a mud hole very easily.

Third was a fire ext. mounted on the back roll bar behind the seat.

At the moment I am looking for bumpers front/rear because I got rear ended on the last rzr and busted some plastic.

I might look for a skid plate and some rock sliders in the near future because there are a lot of large rocks on the trails in many places I ride.

As someone mentioned, a belt is a good investment as a just in case and so is a spare tire. I don't have either of those yet but I do keep a tire patch/plug kit with me along with a little compressor. Also I keep a tow rope and a snatch block in there.

Oh one other purchase is a review mirror and I also forgot I just ordered a parking brake and I'm waiting for Brown to bring it.

Roof, door inserts, full front and rear windshield. I have a bumper from mad dawg coming with a terra super winch 4500lb. I live in the UP where we have 2 months of summer more or less so comfort was my big thing at first. With basically zero cell service where we are winch was a must. Next up is spare best and tools. Already have the fire extinguisher and first aid kit. Harnesses, and some serious LED spot lights for it. (Wanna see the deer, bear and downed trees always up there). I am curious tho about the suspension up grades someone mentioned tho. As the rear is to stuff and I lose so much ride height after lightning it up. Any way. Enjoy the ride man!!! What a blast they are!!!

Parking Brake and harnesses first. Just laid mine on it's side, and the harnesses kept us inside and safe. Parking brake is great when parking on a steep hill, keeps stress off the transmission.

Everyone gave great ideas. I had all the goodies and one day I got stranded because I broke a rim. Now I have an extra tire mount and tire for each of my rzr. I will not ride without a spare tire. Never been stranded since. Get a cargo box and put in all the necessary tire repair kits and portable generator.

Safety items first, harness , extinguisher etc.
Clutching. My '16 went thru it's first belt at around 400 miles, due to it hitting the housing cover. Apparently this is due to lack of or not enough backshift on the secondary causing the belt to go slack when lifting on the throttle.
Storage, there is just never enough of it. Either bags or hard type.
