My glovebox solution for the 570

Hey guys. Ive been wanting a glovebox in my 570 ever since I got the thing. Its just a great thing to have for packing my camera, pistol, snacks, gloves, etc... I havent been able to convince myself to spend $90 or so on a glovebox and I really didnt see any aftermarket solutions I liked for the $$.

So, I wound up coming up with this. Its just a $10 plastic Ammo Can from walmart. Completely water tight, and even has a place for a small padlock to go so that it can be locked shut if needed. I drilled holes to match the brackets for the factory glove box, used two 1/4-20 bolts that were 2.5" long, and also bought four 1 inch spacers and used two on each bolt to space it down so that it doesnt hit the grab handle rod that runs back to the frame, then snugged the bolts down with two nylock nuts. As of right now, it is pretty sturdy and actually will flex the glovebox mounts if i try to move it, but im going to add two more bolts to the other two holes in the factory glovebox mounts just to keep vibration and flex down as much as possible, I just didnt buy enough materials the first time around.

I havent used it yet but I think its going to work great. Still more than enough leg room, and even though it swings open from the side, its still very easy to open and close sitting in the machine. Over all, this whole setup could be had for less than $20, and installed in about 10 minutes. Im anxious to try it out and just thought I would share with you guys. :)

That's a great mod, especially for the price. Just make sure you air it out when it's stored. If moisture ever gets in there and isn't allowed time to dry out, you might end up with fuzziness that you didn't want. Mine was on a pair of Mechanics gloves. I may have put them in my glove box slightly damp and forgot about them until I was doing some work and cleaning a couple weeks ago.

Thanks everyone! I just thought it would be a good way to go about it since these boxes seal up well and are fairly durable and extremely cheap, which is always high on my list :D

One thing I didnt mention, is that I took the handle off the top of the box. It is unneeded anyway, and I think if left on the box, it will flop around and make a little noise so I just removed it. It pry's right out of the lid and pops right back in should you ever want to do so.

Katnapper- Good point on keeping it dry in there. Ive done things like that before with sealed containers and they get stink fast. lol

BugBoyOne - I agree. I already have a box I keep in the bed for bigger stuff, but its so nice to have certain things handy to reach and I think this will be a great way to do it.

joemamma - Thanks! One of the best parts was that I was telling a buddy my plan for the glovebox. He then proceeds to tell me that he has the exact box I wanted and that he doesnt have a use for it and that I could have it. Soooo, my box was free and I literally have about $5-6 in the whole deal. :D

Thanks! Legroom is great. I am 6'4" and it does not at all interfere with my legs when I sat in the passenger side to try it out. I'm also sure it could be made removeable with a little ingenuity. I don't have the need for it but I have no doubt it could easily be done.

And, you can pick up those boxes at Harbor Freight, $5 when they're on sale (still on sale tomorrow May 1, 2016, back to regular price Monday)

Thanks guys. GNWRdr, feel free to post pictures of yours and how you like it. I never did add the other two supports to mine and it has been holding up just fine so im not sure that I will.

Awesome mod! Picking up my 570 EPS this weekend and was wondering about storage options vs the Arctic Cat units I had been looking at. This will come in super handy and love the price!

As far as the lock. I'm I
Looking out for a rubber cover to put over it.
I'd look in the hardware drawers at Home Depot. Ask the employee for that section for their ideas too.
