Are Bighorns still the best all around tire there is???

I think we all know the answer to that but I thought I would start a poll to prove to a guy that swears there is nothing better.

Re: Are Bighorns still the best all around tire there is???

They are 6 ply but radial
If you don't have sidewall issues they last a long time
Pretty good all around tire and are fairly light weight
I like the fact that they run more true to size than others

They are a decent all around tire for sure. They are still one of the best but certainly not the best. I'd take my carnivores over the bighorns any day of the week.

Re: Are Bighorns still the best all around tire there is???

I'm sure there are better but i'm tired of shopping around for the "best".
I tried a couple different brands on my 900 and hated them.
I bought a new set of take off wheels and bighorns for my 1k already
Not only gave me a spare tire but i'll just swap out the new with the old and I'll buy another set of wheels and tires if anyone has them.
They work for me and I'm good with that

Those are the best tires for every use. Mud, rocks, gravel, road and dirt.
I still have mine from 2012 on my rzr900xp4

Re: Are Bighorns still the best all around tire there is???

I like them fine. I went with Blackwater EVOs because I do see more mud then I think the Bighorns can handle, but if it wasn't for that, I would still be rocking them.

Re: Are Bighorns still the best all around tire there is???

I'm happy with mine too. Only one leak in around 4300 miles Total between both my machines. I'm sure there are better tires out there, but I like the light weight of the bighorns.

Re: Are Bighorns still the best all around tire there is???

I ran big horns on two of my rigs a 800 RZRS and a 900 RZRXP. Also I ran them on a Arctic cat wildcat 1000 x.
In the desert southwest where I ride on trails and such I would pick up usually at least one puncture every 200 to 300 miles. And I'm not talking face of the tread punctures I'm talking sidewalls. Face of the tread punches are easy to take care of the sidewalls though rip very easily. That has been the demise of at least 4 - 6 rear tires at over $100 a pop. I finally decided that I would go with regular truck tires the grabber a/t 2's or something of that nature. I got no more than 1000 miles of riding out of the big horns and I got 3500 miles out of the grabbers. After 3500 miles I still had A lot of tread left though some of it had chunked. The xp rzr 900 would run better threw rocks up hills or even in the shallow Sand, was more stable at or near top speed and would get there quicker then with the bighorns. The only thing that I sacrificed was a little bit of slow speed bump absorption. It wasn't even enough that I adjusted the shocks as it didn't bother me. I got tired of trips being messed up by having to replace Big Horn tires. Just my two cents.

Re: Are Bighorns still the best all around tire there is???

The grabber AT2s can be had from any Walmart for roughly the same price as the bighorns once you have the 14 inch rims to put them on. I use a harbor freight tire breaker to change tires when needed. Hope this helps someone.

Re: Are Bighorns still the best all around tire there is???

The bighorn sucks in my riding area. Big time.

Sketchy as hell at speed, terrible cornering characteristics, super wimpy side wall and maybe they wear great elsewhere but not here.

After seeing tires like the R Spec, Arisun Aftershock, Lobo, Tensor DS, Liberty... the bighorns days are over in my area. Either of these setups would do you way better in anything but mud running. The left is the ITP UltraCross R Spec in 30/10/14 on a low offset 6" Walker Evans beadlock. The right is a Maxxis Liberty in 30/10/14 on a 5/2 Method 401(I think) beadlock.

For the desert around me, these two kick some major bighorn ass all day.

Re: Are Bighorns still the best all around tire there is???

Wow, surprising and interesting responses. It goes to prove that it is true that Bighorns have a cult following. What is surprising to me is why half polled thus far believe they are the best out there! This explains why I got into the discussion with a guy on a Facebook group that refuses to be convinced otherwise. I have nothing against Bighorns and they are probably the most proven all around tire out there. This is mainly because they got the jump on the market back in ATV days and then most the manufacturers made them stock tires, thus the following continues. I think also that many people are satisfied with them and do not need to spend the coin on upgrading tires. They can also take advantage of the cheap take offs that are easily found for replacement. All that said, if you are saying that Bighorns in this day and age are still the best all around tire, IMO you haven't ran some of the many offerings available on the market these days. Bighorns are still a good all around tire, but there are NUMEROUS others that are FAR better IMO. How many competitive race cars running Bighorns these days?

What you say could be true ... But the title states best all around tire... And for some of the alternatives they are definitely better in some aspects ... But not all aspects .... It is still hard to find a true best all around tire ... There are always trade offs.
