Street Legal Insurance in Michigan

A couple weeks have went by since the laws were changed on making Rzr's street legal again in Michigan. I am mainly interested in knowing if anyone has successfully insured one yet. And if you dont mind sharing with who and how much. I had my last one done a few years ago and the insurance just kept going up to the point that it didnt make sense to even have it street legal anymore. Now that its legal again I would be interested in doing it again if the insurance rates are going to come back down to a reasonable level like they were when i first made my other one street legal.

I have a quote from State Farm to insure a 2017 Polaris General 1000 for approximately $120 a month. They are the only company I could find that would do it at this time.

They never were reasonable, back in 2010 State Farm for our 800 4 seat was over $1500.
When did you first do the street legal, what year?

Re: Street Legal Insurance in Michigan

I'm working on it right now for the first time. They are very strict and many people are not passing final inspection because of a parking break. I talked to the State Inspector Thursday and you need a totally independent parking brake system. You cannot use the calipers on the machine and it cannot be operated by fluid. Needs to be cable operated. There are no kits out their to install and satisfy the inspection. I have talked to 5 Polaris dealers and they have nothing. I emailed Polaris directly and got no help. I also wrote to our State Rep. about this. I'm stuck right now as I have everything else done.

There is another thread about street legal that has some info about making a parking brake. Good luck

Thanks for the reply. Crazy Michigan legislation on a parking brake. It will never get used.

Look up the brake thingy, I think it might pass and easy to install.

Re: Street Legal Insurance in Michigan

The brake thingy will not pass.

Iíve been in contact with Maxxed Out Motorsports and a guy on the east side of the state who are real close to manufacturing a kit for the rzr. Sounds like they should have something within a month or so.

I have not heard anyone getting insurance from anything other than State Farm.

$700-800 for six months of full coverage seems to be the going rate on the forums. You will hear stories of much higher rates. Not sure if that is a regional thing or if that person is younger with a poor driving record.
