2013 Off Camber Rocks update

The Off Camber is only about 7 weeks away! I am going to do this update, and also paste the link over into the original thread. Having gone on a few of these rides, it sure is nice to get all of my ducks in a row ahead of time. Here we go with a run down of the facility, directions, things to do and some more thoughts.
The event is from Wednesday October 16th thru Monday the 21st. You DO NOT have to attend all days. I made the dates wide to accommodate the folks that have to drive long distances, or may have to get back to work early.

From the South, get to Mountain Home AR. Proceed East on US Hwy 62-412 E about 5 miles to Hwy 101 North. Cross over Lake Norfork, continue about another 25 miles until you dead end into US 160. Turn Left and go 2 miles, the Ranch entrance is on your right.

From the East and Memphis-Jonesboro areas, take US 63 North thru Hardy AR. Continue on 63 N to West Plains MO. Turn Left on US 160 West. Go about 17 miles through the little town of Caulfield and continue another 2 miles to the Ranch.

From St Louis - Rolla area, take US Hwy 63 South to West Plains and then US 160West

From Branson Springfield area, take US 60 East to Cabool, then South on US 63 and come down to WP. Turn Right onto East US 160(US 160 is a very windy between Gainesville and Tecumseh, and NOT recommended for big rigs)

From Oklahoma area- Take I-44 East towards Springfield. Get off at exit 69 James River Freeway, (MO 360) and head East on US Hwy 60 all the way to Cabool, then South on US 63 to West Plains, the West on US 160

We are only going to do a Poker Run on Saturday, the 19th. I want to maximize your time on the trails, not play hurry up and wait for another activity to start. As most of you know, it's very common to sit in a line up for an hour waiting for the stragglers. Not here. We have many Ranch members that will be waiting to leave in all 4 directions all of the days! Ride with a group or buy a map at the store and explore on your own!!

Bring your guns! C9R has a dedicated are for a shooting range. No Permits are required! Anything goes!

Horseback riding is available all days. Small fees apply. The pools will be closed. Tennis and basketball courts are open all year.

Jason Hawk (Hawk Engineering) is a caver deluxe! He will take you into some awesome places. He will chime in on what you need to bring. I will wait outside and keep the bears from entering!

The Ranch has Gasoline, but no Diesel. Also Propane, 24 hour Ice Machine, free compressed air and a free washing area for the mudders. The camp store and restaurant will be open on a limited basis. Additional T-shirts and hoodies will be available also.

I have wanted to check those caves out for while now. I may take him up on that if he is willing to give a tour!

The caves sound like fun. Might have to park the rzr long enough for that!

Re: 2013 Off Camber Rocks update

Yep I will give a tour of one of the caves that has a lot to see. It is easy to get to and easy to enter. There is multiple big rooms in this cave. You must be careful not to touch the walls with bare hands. The oil from your hands kills the growth. So with that being said, here is what to plan for.

Bring a head light you wear on your head. Walmart sells them for $15-$20. Most people wear a bicycle helmet to protect their head. Wear pants and long sleeve shirt if you plan to crawl thru the passage in the back. Shoes are fine for this cave. And wear gloves of some kind. There is no water in this cave. Anyone should be able to get in the cave. I have taken older people with hip replacements in this one. There is a passage in the back that is not for everyone. I clear by about 4". You have to slide on your back for about 15'. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GO THRU IT SEE SOME REAL BEAUTY. You will enjoy the front half.

Please take any trash out you bring in.

I will get with Steve to decide a tour time.

Not to come in for the rally, this is a free week at Cloud 9 Ranch.

Oh and just a heads up, the ranch has lowered the lifetime membership to the ranch to $500 till the end of the year. After that all you pay is yearly maintenance fees. I think back in the 80's it was like 5-7k to be a member, there's truly no place like it...

Also to those who may find that they are interested in buying a membership....keep on eye on Craigslist. You can find them for a couple hundred bucks once in a while. Just make sure the dues are all paid up or you could find that you owe a ton in late fees.

Re: 2013 Off Camber Rocks update

The original memberships back in the late 70's to mid 80's were about $8K! As the membership base grew, the prices came down. If you buy a membership from the Ranch itself, there are very low additional fees for deed transfer etc. Plus you can pay your maint fees on a quarterly basis.
If you buy one privately, there are several hundred dollars in fees, plus you must pay you $425? annual maint. fee all at once. Still, there are deals out there.
Big D, click on the Big link in my signature for more about this event. Lots of guys from the Spfg area are members and are attending!

Re: 2013 Off Camber Rocks update

That cave sounds interesting. I know of a few of them in AZ that are fun to explore.

Here is one where you have to wiggle through about 20 feet on your back.

I know a guy that has a map spelunkers have drawn of this cave. If goes for miles underground but the openings are even smaller than this one and I just don't have what it takes to wriggle through these tiny openings.
