My Towing Set Up

I wanted to share my towing set up since it is a little different, and when I was doing research on double towing could not find much other than opinion. We are new to the RZR world, just having bought our 4 seater back in December.

Normally I pull a 35' bumper pull with as many as 4 dirt bikes in the bed of the pickup and have pulled that many years from Colorado to Moab to Oklahoma to Taylor and many other destinations. This year would be our first to find a way to haul the 4 seater also, and after doing much research, decided to double tow, and yes, I mean double tow two bumper pull trailers for the trip. My setup is as follows: 2012 F350 Long Bed with 2 bikes in the back, myself, wife, 3 kids and two dogs in the cab; 35' bumper pull with Equalizer Weight Distro anti sway bar attached, filled with supplies for a family of 5, all tanks empty; and finally a 12' tandem axle flat bed pulling a 2017 RZR XP4; total length about 65'. Camper has brakes, 12' flat bed did not. I have plenty of experience pulling trailers, but was reluctant at first on the two bumper pulls. I did add a rear facing camera to the back of the camper so the RZR was in sight the whole time, I believe this reduced a lot of worry going down the road.

We traveled from Colorado, to Little Sahara in Oklahoma, to Norman and back to Colorado on Interstate, two lane highway, and some dirt roads with absolutely no issues at all. I believe the combination of the anti sway on the camper as well as the tandem axle flat bed made the trip a success. We encountered lots of wind, lots of trucks, lots of highway patrol, and lots of lane changes, and for the exception of one car trying to occupy the same lane as us on the freeway, no issues at all.

When I was doing research on double towing, no one really ever had specific personal experience and equipment used. If anyone has any questions, let me know. Here are some pics of the set up.

Re: My Towing Set Up

I've thought about doing this. But I haven't built up the courage yet. That said, I'm really wondering about the actual length. The math doesn't work out at 65 ft. That truck is apprx 19 ft long. With a 35 ft camper and 12 ft trailer, you'd be at 66 ft before you account for the length of both tongues. That's gotta be closer to 70 ft total length. Holy smoke.

Can't sleep. Clowns will eat me.

2017 XTP 4 - TBD.....
2015 XP 1000 - Shock Therapy Level 3 Spring Kit / Front Sway Bar, Alba Racing Stage 1 kit / Rear Radius Rods / Sway Bar Links / Front Bumper, Flight OffRoad "Shorty" Cage, ITP SS112 Wheels, Autotude High Clearance A-Arms, Southern Sounds MTX Roof System, SSV Works Sub, Super ATV 4500lb Winch, UTV Giant Full Doors / Rear Storage, Trail Control Gated Shifter, Adventure Air Onboard Compressor, Pro Armor Harnesses, Gorilla Whips.

Re: My Towing Set Up

Well I will pull my measuring tape next time, but the trailer is 35 tongue to bumper, the actual camper portion is a 32 footer, 12 foot trailer with 3 foot tongue so maybe I am closer to 69, still no issues. Colorado is 70 foot limit, don't know about the other states, but I did pass several troopers with no issues.

I'm doing the same thing, longest trip so far is central Iowa to Northern Minnesota. Never so much as a wiggle. I have scaled it extensively to make sure all weights are correct.
2015 F150, 30' camper, 10' sled trailer. I'm running a Pro Pride P3 hitch. Works fantastic, I'd guess around 68' total length.

This is my F-250 crewcab, pulling my 32ft 5th wheel, and 16' jetboat. It's just under 65' total. It's funny this is legal in California, but not Oregon.

I thought one of the tow vehicles had to be a fifth wheel?

Re: My Towing Set Up

Colorado limit is 70' unless the 2nd unit behind the truck is carrying "recreation" items. I am 70' 6" nose to tail. 30' 5th wheel and 18' car trailer.
