XPT Clutch Warranty problem

Im new to RZR & new to CVT, Guess we will see if the warranty works. New XPT less than 500 miles, less than 20 hrs. Hear a noise from belt area after starting & idling car. Sounded like belt noise so pulled the cover & found a bunch of small pieces of what looked like pop-metal. Belt is torn up, all 4 sheave's are destroyed. My first thought was that something must have gotten in there and rattled around but was very careful pulling cover to check for anything falling out. The only thing that came out were small pop-metal looking pieces. Was able to drive back to trailer and drop off at dealer. They won't look at it till tuesday and told me not to get my hopes up of having it done sooner than 2 weeks!
Does anyone have an educated guess? Friends have same car, with same milage and similar driving style (although I am a little more aggressive) and both those cars have no issues. Could driving style induce something like this? Our driving is desert trails & fast power line roads. I already ordered the primary & secondary assemblies just in case the dealer doesn't warranty it & to have as spares if they do. Sure kills the holiday weekend trip plans.

WTF? Its like metal pieces were just bouncing around in there, weird. Hopefully should be warranty, especially if Polaris left a bolt in there or a piece came off the clutch and was ping ponged around in there. Update us on what your dealer says / finds.

That ain't right. My guess would be a bolt went flying around in there... hope they take care of you.

A quick update. The dealer looked at it and the service manager called and talked to me about all the aftermarket parts that were not installed by them. He was nice enough and after our discussion I was feeling pretty good about the service department. Now its been a few days and they still have no answer back from Polaris. I asked if they found a "smoking gun" that caused the problem, and he tells me that they can't see an obvious cause and that they assume something got into the clutch cover and bounced around. He asked why I removed the debris shield that goes on the vent side of the clutch cover hoses. I told him to look at the parts fiche as it doesn't shoe a shield like the XP1K has, its just a gaping 4" hole begging for debris to get in. Its unlikely that anything will get in thru the hose but anything is possible. He looked and agreed, telling me they were submitting it to Polaris for warranty consideration.
Consideration??
im a little frustrated. i stopped by tonight and the service writer pulled up the claim and sure enough it says "waiting on response". The service writer told me they are still thinking about whether to cover it under the warranty or not. WTF?
Is there a place to contact polaris directly vis email or phone? Send 25K+ on a car and they have to "think about warrantying it". It has 13.1 hours and 400 miles on it.
Im definitely going to cancel the extended warranty (after this is concluded). I don't blame the dealer, its out of their hands as they can't do anything until Polaris gives the go ahead.
Any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated.

What aftermarket parts are installed. If they don't directly affect the clutch, why does it matter? Why would you remove the debris shield? Are you talking about the Frogskin cover or the whole plastic piece?

Im new but who is FJK? Does he mind helping out total strangers?

The intake side of the clutch cooling system is the one with the frogskin. On the side of the bed. The exhaust side of that venting system comes off the top of the clutch housing and has a hose about 20" long running towards the front of the car.
On the XP1K there is a steel debris screen, on the Turbos its just an open hole. Not sure why, but I am looking up an outerwear to put over it just because I don't like the idea of it being open.
Thanks for the replies

No just find a new dealer VRP. Polaris suffers from greedy and inept dealers as anyone of the manufacturers do, it just seems like Polaris will keep supporting the bad ones even after you get them involved in stuff. We have a dealership here in McKinney and they suck so bad I go to Oklahoma for service and parts. They fired part of the problem when they let service manager who was crooked as a snake but they still will not get my business...don't give up the YXZ has its issues as well but my advice is try to find a better place to go and maybe your outlook will brighten a little on this machine.

I wouldn't replace that clutch, though I wouldn't tell your dealer that. On the bright side of things, if they don't warranty it, take the clutch to a machine shop to have the faces turned. Slight imperfections won't cause any performance loss. I have milled vents directly through my clutches and they work great.

@VRP - I was dusted out by the YXZ twice last weekend, but when it came to climbing rocky nasty hills, the YXZ had to turn around and go back. The Polaris and Rhinos went up and down, no problem. You made the right choice with the Rzr. :)

Just got off the phone with them. The rep said he wants to research the CVT exhaust hose not having a screen on it and whether its possible that debris entered thru there. He said they did not use a screen because they pointed the hose a different direction. He did mention that I am supposed to " check the cvt for debris before every ride, its in the owners manual. " he said he will research it and get back to me but cannot say that it will change the declined status as the clutch and belt system are not a warrantied item, they are standard wear items. I asked "so i should expect it to wear in 13 hrs?" I love the car, but truly am learning to hate the company.

Who is to say you didn't check it before every ride and it happend after you checked it while riding? That sucks OP... obviously you aren't going to toss a bolt into your brand new CVT to see what happens so why are they giving you flack about it? It's clearly a warranty issue and they should just fix it... done deal... no questions asked.

No worries, most people who see the vents ask about slipping, it is quite the opposite actually. I take my buggy's to the Colorado River in the summer. It gets belt smoking hot there. I don't mill to the outer edge, so full contact on take off. Even after fully submerging the open clutch at Lake Havasu, I do not experience any slipping. Happy to share :)

Took a quick look at the inner cover and deflector assembly and there are several small screws holding the inner cover and deflector. Are they all still in place? hard to tell by your pics, but it looks like the upper right screw for the deflector is missing. If it came loose and was banging around in the cover it could have easily done the damage. I would check them all and see if any of the others are loose.
Regards,

I will look myself when i bring the car home to wait for polaris to think about it. there are 5x 5mm bolts, 3x 6mm bolts, 5x 10mm bolts & 2x 12 mm bolts inside the cover. The big bolts wouldn't be the what caused this but the are 8 chances for it to be a bolt. guess we will see.

On another note a buddy of mine that purchased his XPT a couple of week before me just called and his car "sucked a valve" yesterday. I don't have the particulars yet, or what the dealer means exactly when they described it like that, but they are submitting for a long block. Kinda making me and the rest of our group a little nervous now. As a group we purchased 4 XPT's, 1 XP1K & 1 XP1K4 from the same dealer in a 3 week timespan.
