Would you go from a RZR to a Jeep?

Hey all.

I will start off by listing what I have. 2012 RG edition RZR4 with EPS. 2" lift, full skidplate, a-arm guards, fenderwell protection, parking brake, and winch. It has low miles. Paid for.

Very few friends these days are riding in my area (I live in Central Illinois BTW). On top of that, my wife and I just welcomed our first child into the world in December, so until he can hold his head up with a helmet on, we won't be doing much family riding.

I enjoy the RZR world quite a bit. I came from a built-up 1978 Bronco on 44's with custom suspension, etc etc. This truck hadn't seen the street in 5 years when I sold it. The RZR was great to me because I replaced a non-street legal vehicle that weighed 7000lbs and failed parts often, and went to a light weight vehicle that I could still drive with a steering wheel.

As time goes on and interests change, I have found myself becoming frustrated with the RZR world. Hundreds, no, THOUSANDS of dollars to get what stock vehicles already come with. Doors, stereo, roof, windshield, HEAT for crying out loud.

I love the RZR and know its capabilities. We don't have dunes in the Midwest to speak of, and trails/rocks are the norm. That works well for me, because that is my favorite stuff anyway.

So here is the dilemma. My son won't be able to go riding in the RZR for quite a while, so until then the RZR will sit around quite a bit. My wife and I enjoy everything together, and I want that to continue. She and I have talked about selling the RZR and buying a streetable Jeep that we can also wheel. We aren't talking about a brand new Jeep or a trailer queen. It would get trailered when going offroading, but could also come out of the garage for random driving.

So to sum it up. The RZR is paid for, but I want to modify quite a few things in order to increase creature comforts. I would also increase its rock crawling capability with bigger tires/wheels, which also decreases reliability. The RZR will still need quite a bit more money put into it, and for approximately the next 3 years, will see very little use.

Or...I sell the RZR and buy a Jeep. My young family can all go around town in it RIGHT NOW from time to time. We can also take it wheeling randomly. It isn't nearly as diverse as the RZR, but would do much better at actual rock crawling (these things do some ledges and small rocks, but not real rocks...come one guys lol). Then as time goes on, do what comes naturally and sell it to have a tubed out buggy that the son and I can rip on haha!

Overall, would you sell it or keep it? RZR's aren't street legal here BTW, which plays a huge role in the decision. The Jeep would definitely supply less pure fun when in offroad use, but would get more overall use which works better for the next few years.

Any and all input is appreciated.

I went from my jeep > rzr. do I miss it, yep. Would I go back, prob not. I have NO ONE local to ride with. I find out where gigs are online and try to meet people. The number of possible trails you can go on in a rzr vs. fullsize is too much to give up IMO. Even if you don't get to drive it much, it's yours. and all it's taking up is a tiny bit of property.

I wouldn't trade my rzr for a jeep, I tried to sell my early bronco to fund the rzr but I couldn't do it. So I bought a cheeper rzr. My rzr is an 08' with all the mods you talk of except the heat. I still have my eb which I have sold the boggers and bought some 40" M16 (street tire). Compromise, you have a little one on the way and you should have some family that would love to watch him while you and the wife get away for a 1/2 a day. Remember happy wife happy...something. Have the kido and then see but don't do something you will regret later.

Not a chance! A jeep wont go on lots of the trails I drive on and even if it could it would be to slow! I feel the need for speed!

Just because you have a tiny new born now doesnt mean he will be fragile as glass forever.

My buddy rides his 8 month old son all over with a car seat belted in. Not going insane but just cruising.

I take my 3 year old daughter all over with her car seat and helment strapped on. She has a freaking blast! My wife rides the 4 wheeker and we take the rzr and enjoy the country side

That is exactly why I kept our Jeep when my daughter came three years ago. I ended up putting a rzrgiant kids seat in the RZR but it was a waste of money as the daughter prefers riding in and going wheeling in the Jeep. I won't sell the Jeep, it has been paid for about 7 years and is well built. I put about 3,000 miles a year on it between playing around town and trail miles.

As long as I can afford it, I'll keep both but good places to wheel Jeeps are getting harder and harder to find.

I think you guys have helped me out a lot! I love the idea of driving down the road, but the fact is that it wouldn't happen very often. My son will grow fast, and I can take a few day trips with the wife or guys offroad trips to keep interested. The biggest factor is that I can beat on it, and it is paid off. Knowing myself, the jeep would get modified heavily as soon as I purchase it. Then it wouldn't be street worthy. I love the diversity of the Rzr. I will stay where I'm at. Thanks guys!

My first car in high school was a jeep. While fun to cruise with no top on and tare up the mountains 4 wheeling I would not trade my razor for 2 jeeps. ( of coarse you need one for parts). I must say I was like cat with 9 lives in that thing. Nearly killed in several situations.
No desire to own or ride in another one.
