I have a viper 5000 and am not impressed at all. I'm running duel batteries and still will get where my winch will not move my car. Other guys I'm with have the harbor freight winches and put synthetic rope on them. Those winches just don't stop. I almost want to pull my winch out and get one of those. I burnt one viper motor last year in the snow. I have to snatch block my viper when the guys with harbor freight winches don't .

Are your friends with Harbor Freight winches also in 2 seat XP 1000/Turbos? How big are their winches?

I have been looking at winches after getting stuck a recently. A buddy of mine was following me in his Teryx and got stuck. I got stuck trying to pull him out. He has a Viper 4500 that quit working.

They are a 2 seat turbo and a 1000. I believe they are the 3500lb. But not positive. The different part numbers on the same winch have different hp motors and gear ratio depending. So look at the manual to see what it is. After seeing that I am not sure on there's, heck I bet they wouldn't know which model they have. I'm guessing 136/1 . If I get the info I'll post it

I didn't care for my viper winch on my quad. Loved my superwinch on another quad. Have Polaris (wArn) 4500 on my 1000s and it does very well. Never gets hot or really drain the battery down (like my viper did)

Going to be installing my Superwinch today. My question is, what does everyone do with the "handlebar switch" since there ARE no handlebars on the RZR. It's got a wired remote plug-in switch which seems to me to be all I need. My pickup has a winch with a wired remote. When I've used that winch, I just ran the wired remote back through the window and operated from the driver's seat. I'm guessing that's what I'm going to do with the winch on my RZR.

Besides, I hate electrical projects with all kinds of wires going everywhere. I'm also not going to hook it up through the ignition switch. I didn't do that with my ATV's and don't see the reason for it on the RZR. I get that it's protection so you don't accidentally somehow run your battery down, but I'm willing to take the chance that that isn't going to happen, given that I have to plug the remote in to make the winch operate anyway.

Is the handlebar switch relegated to being "spare parts"? :wink
Here's what I did

I've not had good luck with the viper winch on my Renegade despite all the positive reviews they get.

Bought a warn pro vantage 4500 for my xp1k that has had tons of use and has had the rope replaced more times than I can count, and it never skips a beat.

They're expensive, yeah but nothing's more frustrating than a weak or non working winch, because you generally find that out when you really need it.

Do you have your Warn 4500 mounted on your bumper or behind the radiator inside the Rzr?

When I bought my xp1k there wasn't alot out there for bumpers that I liked. Everything was either very heavy or didn't have the winch placed where I wanted it so I built my own bumper and mounted the winch on it. It sits just in front and just below the grille to not block off airflow and allow easy access as well as keeping the winch out of the water. The bumper mounts the provided 4 holes in front of the rad as well as behind the rad on the tubular frame. Super strong, I could winch this thing up a tree.

Here's a pic.

On my instruction sheet, Superwinch shows a circuit breaker in line between the battery and the solenoid, and they include a two piece plastic box for that circuit breaker. But I didn't get a circuit breaker in the kit. Is this an optional thing, or did they just forget to put it in the box?

I got two tiny screws instead of bolts for attaching my fairlead so I'm thinking maybe this was a Monday or Friday winch kit . . .

:surprise
