I have a Viper 3500 midnighter on my XP4 and it is a pile. I actually had 2 of them fail at the same time on 2 separate machines stuck in the snow. Awful experience when you think you can depend on something that COMPLETELY leaves you stranded! So, I talked to Motoalliance and they said to send them in and they would check them out. They 'fixed them" and sent them back and I just tried using mine again and guess what...stuck in the snow. Straight pull, set up to use on last wrap for the most power and it just stopped pulling. Tightened up the rope good and tight but that was it. UGH!!!
Anyways, so I am looking for a winch that's worth a crap. Looking at the Super ATV 4500, the Superwinch Terra 4500 and the Quadboss 5000. The question I have is this...
The Superwinch has a 1.3hp motor, the Superwinch has a 1.6hp motor and the Quadboss has a 3.5hp motor! Ok, so does anyone know how this works? I also looked at the Warn 4500# winch and it's got a 1.9hp motor. What am I missing here? How can these winches be rated so similarly yet the hp figures are all over the board? Is the Quadboss the obvious powerhouse?? Does hp = pulling power? I assume there has something to do with gearing/line speed/power pulled from vehicle but don't know enough about it all to make an educated decision.
Anyone have any input?
Thanks!
