Howdy,
I’ve got a bit of a problem on my ‘21 Pro XP 4.
After letting a family member take the car out for a long ride (I know, never again) the transmission has suffered some foul play. Looks like it took an impact towards the front of the case. The bash plate was dented pretty bad and there are some scrapes on the bottom of the case. It started leaking fluid the following day and further investigation uncovered a small crack on the right hand case about 1” long near one of the bolts(second one from drain plug). The leak is not coming from the crack however but from where the cases come together a few inches above the crack. Picture is of the dent to the bash plate.
I know this is gonna need to be replaced but I am hoping that I can just get away with replacing the damaged side of the case and not the entire transmission. Everything seems to shift fine and no crazy noises are being made. It never ran out of fluid.
The gamble is that everything inside the transmission is indeed fine and not damaged. I suppose pulling it out first and checking it over would be best if I do it myself. I would be able to have an auto mechanic help me. Having the dealer do it is a bit pricey. Parts and labor for them to do it ranged from $2400 (case only) to $5100 (full replacement). Just a bummer all around.
