What Video camera do you use?

What do you like and what do you dislike about it?

What do you wish it could do that it does not?

Do you mount it? if so, where?

Battery life?

Does it have an option to see what you are shooting? LCD screen, bluetooth to another device, ect...

Would you buy it again? If not, which one would you get.

Does it shoot 1080P, 720P, or non HD?

Any other helpful info to potential buyers.

Thanks, im personally looking for something that can mount on a roll bar and can be taken off quickly and film by hand. With a screen would be a plus. This thread hopefully will help many others choose as well.

I use the Samsung i think it is the 3200 it's on sale this weekend best buy for 120 dollars.
I like it because it is waterproof dust proof and shockproof.
I don't have mine mountain I keep mine in my front shirt pocket that way it's easy to get at if I wanna video or take still pictures.
It does have a big LCD screen and I like it because you can pause the video rather than stop it and have a bunch of short film clips.
1 reason I haven't mounted it is because if you hold it in your hand you're more likely not to take a very long video and if you ever watch the 15 or 25 minute video about razor riding can get pretty boring.
I have the contour video camera the GPS model and I hate it I never know if it is recording , battery life is terrible it's hard to transfer the video.

I've got the contour and the picture quality is great. I usually turn it on for a few minutes at a time or let it run If we are riding hard so I don't miss anything. I've had no issues with battery. I mount it on back bar either facing forward between driver and passenger or to the rear. Video stabilization is great and it is 1080 hd pic. I have had some issues editing the video on my Mac and have not got it all worked out yet but I think I just need to read a little more. It doesn't have a view screen so it's point and aim. Works great for me. Last thing is volume is sub par but I edit music over the video 99% of the time to make it family friendly.

I think i am leaning toward the Conour GPS, My buddy has one and you can get an app for your phone to bluetooth the screen shot to help line it up.
i do have this same contour gps 1080 hd, and also the gopro hero 1080hd
i like the pic quaility on the contour,
i like the iphone app as well,
i don,t like that it is hard to tell if you your battery is low or you are recording or not

I really like the GoPro Hero 2. I have 3 of them when I ride. One is on my RZR4 and 2 on my XP. I use the GoPro roll cage mounts. All have 32gb SD cards which is plenty for one day of riding.

I added the WiFi backpacks so I can control all three cameras from the remote on my wrist. It is very easy to control while driving. Remember GoPro battery can be swapped in the field if you run out of juice. The Wifi backpack had its own battery but will use the camera battery if it runs out.

Agree that the sound quality is not so good when in the watertight case. The camera has so many uses: off road, skiing, swimming/surfing, you name it.

Here is some video I put together from all three cameras: Good luck! Tushar

Have you used the GoPro app with the wifi backpack to view playback or stream live shots? if so, does it work well? thanks for the info

I use the GoPro Hero wish I would have waited for the 2. It is the most versatile IMO. The audio isnt the best for sure but if you edit your videos and put music over them they are way more enjoyable to watch anyway.

So loaded the Go Pro I phone app and then upgraded the firmware on the 3 cameras, 3 wifi back packs, and the wifi remote. Seems the i phone app only controls one camera. Multiple cameras is a planned upgrade according to customer service. I had some trouble upgrading one of the WiFi backpacks so I had to call. To sum it up, the app is useless with multiple cameras for now. Also, the app does not play back video for you. In my opinion, the app is useless for a RZR rider. Use the remote which will control the same function on multiple cameras; and worry about the footage later.

BTW I just recieved this on FB:

GoPro CEO Nick Woodman announces the GoPro HERO3: the smallest, lightest, most powerful way to document your life.

The Wi-Fi enabled HERO3: Black Edition is the most advanced GoPro, ever. No expense was spared during its development, resulting in a GoPro that is 30% smaller, 25% lighter and 2x more powerful than previous models.

I use a GoPro Hero 2. Love it, it works well, takes good 1080 video but if you wish you can lower the picture quality to 720 or WGVA so you can get more hours onto a card. I think it will go up to over 7 hours an a 32 GB SD card.
Not sure about battery life as I haven't been out long enough to run the battery completely dead, but I always carry a spare.
I have mine mounted on the front cross bar of the cage just in front of the rear view mirror.
I would definitely buy one again, no regrets, it's a great camera.
I use iMovie on my Mac for editing videos. It is easy to use and makes decent videos!

I have the Drift 170 (a tad bigger than the hd) and love it. Remote works well. camera also makes an audible beep when recording starts and stops so if it's mounted out of sight you'll know when it turns on although i usually can't hear it over the engine noise but still a nice feature. I also bought a $12 gopro mount adapter so you can use just about any mount out there. The lens rotates too so you can mount the camera in any position and still get that perfect angle.

GoPro Hero. If i had a Hero 2, i would use that instead. I have also added the WiFi Backpac so i can control the camera from a small remote. If i had the 2, then i could use my phone, but i cant with the standard hero.

I use a UTV Inc Mutli-Angle mount on the A pillar, about 4 inches above the Cage mount. The camera sits outside so it doesn't block my view.

Battery Life is roughly 3 hours, and i run 16g disks. I bought a wall charger from Amazon for 35 bucks that came with 2 additional batteries, and carry those with me, along with another card if the ride is running longer then 3 hrs.

Honestly, GoPro is the best at what they do for the price. You can mount them every where, and there are a bunch of great accessories. Some camera's have LCD screens, but remember those screens use power, and make the battery life shorter.

I had a GoPro Hd and it made nice video. I got a different helmet for skydiving and the go pro couldnt be mounted so i bought the contour. Happy to let you play with it this weekend if you want to hang out.

GoPro Pros:
Good video
Good sound
Lots of accessories
Good resale
Comes with waterproof housing

Cons:
Ugly form factor
Not easy to start filming on the fly
Really not easy to start on the fly

Contour Pros:
Nice looking
Rotating lens
Laser aligning to line up the shot
Tactile switch. Forward on and beep, back off and beep
SO much better for starting and stopping

Cons:
Virtually unuseable sound. Horrible.
No screen
Waterproof case is sold seperately

Verdict:
In your shoes, i would buy gopro2. Its got all sorts of great functions and excellent quality. Best all arounder IMO. Picture was more stable too, but our applications arent apples to apples.

Shoot me a msg on FB and ill bring my cam over so you can test it out. In fact, im planning to go to lafayette tomorrow so ill try to remember to bring it for you.

I have the Drift HD. I bought it for riding on my 850 XP but use it in the RZR. Drift is a smaller company and very responsive to its customers. They come out with firmware updates fairly often based on customer input and videos. Why I chose the Drift HD:
-Wireless remote included (can slave as many cameras as you want)
-Replaceable lens
-Rotatable lens for different mounting positions
-LCD screen
-Waterproof/Dust proof to 1 meter. I have the waterproof housing that goes to 100 feet.
-Slimmer mount. Not a big deal on the RZR but makes a difference on a helmet.

If anyone wants to see some video, I'm on youtube, user - JJacksonH53.

I have the Go Pro but my best video usually comes from my camera. It is hand held and easy to stop and start and move to the action, as aposed to the long boring shots with the GoPro. But when I get time I am able to put together good videos but I like the quick shots from the camera, am usually able to get more personal video's from it.

I have the Drift HD and the new Sony Action Cam. The Sony can be controlled from and viewed from your phone. The Drift HD has it's own remote.

Sony Action Cam frt cam, Drift HD bck cam

Sent from my Motorola Electrify
From the video it looks like the sony takes much better quality video. How did you mount it? I dont think they make a roll bar mount yet. Which one do you prefer?

I have the GoPro2.. The only action camera I have owned so I cant compare.. I like it but would suggest buying the Wi-Fi with remote if you buy the camera.. Pain in the butt to turn it on and off without remote ($299 camera $100 Wi-Fi).. With that said the new goPro3 HAS the remote and dive case included ($399) and looks like an awesome camera..Good Luck

I have the Contour ROAM and I'm pretty pleased. It's tough. It takes great video and Amazon has a great deal on them. I also like the form factor and simplicity. Not downing the GoPro. I just don't like the clunky look to be honest.

I'd buy another contour in a heart beat. But the wife would notice the 2nd cam and kick my ass! LOL
