So I am curious to know who’s running what size tires and if they take tire weight into consideration when deciding what ones to go with? Right now I have 30x10x14 Maxxis rampage tires. They weigh 33lbs a tire. Looking at two different options for whenever I need new ones, but they weigh significantly more. One brand is 38lbs a tire (SATV Warrior R/T), and the other is 40lbs a tire (BFG KM3).

Are any of you running super heavy tires and how does effect your driving or your power? Do they hold up better to the terrain? My current and prospective tires are all 8 ply, so I’m curious where all the extra weight is coming from as well, but I digress...

So the question is, what do you take into consideration when you buy tires. And what size did you go with and why

Weight is a factor. The heavy tires will cut your power. I currently Run MRT tires because they are strong and light. Maxxis is the lightest but also the weakest. I have both the SATV and BFG tires if you decide to go that way.

I run the pro armor crawlers they are 8 ply and do very well for traction and rocks but they are not a mud tire but my style is no mud lol so they work great for me there about 45lbs a piece on the rim

I'm running 14" Method 409's with 30" Kanati Terramasters. I didn't get a chance to weight them separately but total weight mounted up is 51.6 lbs

I am running 30x10x14 carnivores and tusk bead lock wheels on my 900 and you could feel the power difference when I put them on. I have since done a clutch kit & tune and now the power feels like it did before the oversized tires...possibly a little better

I am running the MRT XROX-DD 32-10-14 at 41lb they are heavy but honestly the type of riding I do I don't notice any difference from the stock tire and wheels.
These are hands down the best tires I have ever run on a SXS or ATV. I ran Big Horns for years and tried out Pit Bull Rockers on my Sportsman 850. I bought stock in a tire plug company while running Big Horns and always battled rim seal issues with the Pit Bulls. The Pit Bull Rockers were also super soft which gave them a ton of grip and a smooth ride but they wore fast. MRT is the way to go!

30x10-14 Maxxis Roxxzilla's on STI HD9 beadlocks. They're 50# per wheel, and tire. Can feel the difference, but the low.speed traction is worth it.

How much difference are we talking though? Like last night I was able to get up to 70 mph on a road strip, granted it took a little bit to get up there. And I realize the Maxxis are the lightest tire as well. Obviously this speed isn’t a necessity to me, just mostly wondering how much of a hinderance it creates. I think the two tires I’m deciding between won’t give me much a problem since they are about 40lbs a tire

I just realized we are essentially running the same set up. I have the same wheels and my tires weigh about the same as yours 🤔 so maybe I’ll lose some top end going 4-6lb heavier each tire

Running ultra light tires is like modding the engine and the suspension at the same time. It makes everything work better....... until you get a flat.

How far does your utv riding take you away from home? Are you willing to carry a spare? Are you willing to ruin a rim running it home on a flat tire?

For me the answers are; not far, no, yes. I always run the lightest tire possible. Flats suck but I will ride home on the brake rotors if I need too.
