What are the issues?

Hello,

I am a very loyal Arctic Cat rider, but I borrowed a ranger to use while I was a vendor at Bristol motor Speeday (My father owns Sonny's BBQ in Knoxville). After the event was over I brought it home and let the wife and kids ride for a bit and they loved it. I have a 2 up from AC and my son and daughter have rode with us around the yard, but after the ranger I couldn't believe how much fun they had.

I am not a polaris fan, but they are the only ones who make a 4 person sxs. Now, what I want to know is the issues with these models and what to expect. Axles, mpgs, parts, wear and tear issues, quality issues? you know....stuff a first time sxs owner would want to know.

Thanks,

Glad to hear you like the RZR-4, I do not have a 4 & I'm holding for a second year XP-4 unless something comes along I just have to have or do.... I'd say the RZR-4 has the least amount of complaints & issues (even per capita) of the RZR family.

I've often wondered if it was because guys tend to ride them easier, are they just built better, or even built by a better crew on assembly? I just don't know. There's a lot of potential in the machine be it for family, racing, or having the extra room "just in case"?

I don't need a 4. I consider it kinda like my wife. I really like it, I can't put my finger on exactly what it is, but I just do. It's different. :):):)

:welcome1: & good luck!

I just bought a RZR4 from a friend of mine. I have not ridden it yet since I am overseas, but he has driven it everywhere all of our group goes. I have heard the 4 climbs even better than the S due to the wheelbase. Only complaints I have heard on the 4 is the front a-arm bushings, but that is with all of the RZR models

I know some of the popos that ride with us (sportsman models and 1 rzr) do terrible in water. They die out under water, water not even to the to of the wheels, and they didn't know the cause. They also overheat alot. I have heard bad things about every make and model of any bike, but from the ACs that I have rode and been with they are like tanks. I just don't want to put money into a black hole, but would love to be able to take my kids out for a day of play and I want a safe and reliable bike that i can spend more time playing on then fixing. I figured the best place to get that anwser is from the people who ride!

I too am an AC guy. Just sold my Prowler 700 after it dogged out on me for the last time. I didn't enjoy all of the RZRs doing circles around me on the top of the mountain. The AC would short out everytime I hit a water crossing. No issues with water so far with my 4. Oh I got over 20 mpg on my last 100 mile trail ride. I love this thing, so does my family.

After reading through this thread, I wanna make a couple comments. The fellow who guessed the reason a RZR4 is better is because people tend to abuse the others a lot worse is correct. Most of the problems reported here are caused by the riding style of the users. I have a standard LE model that has been completely trouble free since day one.

The other comment concerns the water issue. These things are not watercraft, boats, or submarines. I have no sympathy for those that use them as such then complain about the damage.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with folks enjoying their machines the way they want, as long as they accept the responsibility of those actions, and not blame the manufacturer.

I can tell you that my RZR S is not babied. I don't abuse it, but we do ride tough terrain. I have had zero issues other than bad bushings and a tie rod end. 1800 miles. As far as the AC I cannot comment. I can tell you that the RZR4 will outperform the Prowler by a long shot, at least in the terrain we ride. I have not seen any of my crew have these issues with our RZRs that you are talking about. If you are trying to get a trail machine, I say the RZR4 is the way to go. If you want a cruiser for around the campground and mostly using it to haul things around for events, then go with the Ranger Crew. Just my two cents.

I have had mine in just about every situation except submerged since doing the Taylor Park ride (Thanks to Jim) and have not encountered any problems. I will admit I SOMETIMES, not often wish for a few more ponies but the power it has is more than adequate for the intended use of the machine. I am also in the market for 2 more inches of ground clearance since I do a lot of rocky terrain, I have not had issues where the ground clearance stopped me from having fun but do occasionally bottom on taller rocks. All in all I have no regrets since buying this machine.:icon_thumleft:

I'm wasn't a huge fan of Polaris, but I'm waiting for my 2012 RZR4 to come in. I just sold my Rhino to do so. We ride with about 15-20 SXS and the RZR4 is the only one that can do some stuff that others can not do. If you push any SXS really hard you will have problems. One RZR4 in our group has 30" tires, lift and LOVES TO SMASH THE GAS HARD:22yikes: and do the most extream trails and has broke stuff. The other RZR4 has 27" tires, lift and still does the extream trails, just dooesn't push it as hard and hasn't had any problems at all. I think it's mostly how you drive it as how it's going to hold up.

You'll enjoy the HELL out of it as we have!! We have over 1000miles on our RZR4 and have had no problems at all! The only thing I have fixed was the open intake of the air box! Very easily fixed and saves you lots of problems. My family loves this thing and we NEVER have enough time to ride as much as we would like! That's the biggest problem!

BUY AND ENJOY!
