Ok so I am just venting a little about my RZR S LE. Some background, the thing was bought August 14th of this year. I owned the machine a little under a month the first time it went into the shop. Ended up getting stuck mudding due to the stupid gas pedal sensor causing it to bog and have no power. Took it in and they adjusted the cable and aligned the sensor. Backed RZR out of my truck and put in garage, next day I backed out to go for a drive and exact same thing. Brought it back in and they said the sensor was bad. I then had to wait 2 weeks to get some new updated one and bring it back in or else be without my RZR for 2 weeks. Now a couple weeks ago I was riding and I could hear a grinding noise. I stopped and started driving again and it went away, figured a rock just got stuck in my brake or wheel or something. Now recently off and on could hear it even more. So my usual grease session I jacked my RZR up and decided to inspect the ball joints and wheel bearings and just making sure the suspension is tight. I found that both drivers side front and rear wheel bearings are shot. The machine is exactly 3 months old and has 1100 miles on it and this is ridiculous. I mean does anyone else have stuff like this?

I came from the automotive industry and working on cars daily and I know things break but seriously in 3 months. I am by no means hard on my stuff either I ride moderate. IDK I just am getting less and less impressed at POLARIS. Plus some of the engineering thoughts on the machine are completely stupid, like the air filter underneath, seems dumb to me because when you have the entire housing and everything covered in dirt as soon as you take the cover off it is a pain to clean it all when stuff falls in the air box. Seems like they fixed it on the XP900 with the box access but some stuff blows my mind. HAHA.

Well feel free to share your experiences if you have them so I can feel better that I am not the only one :popcorn:

That's your opinion, but I'm not a fanboy. I'm a fellow TN rider and just sold, and replaced, my RZR and didn't buy another Polaris because of cheap build quality and deficient engineering. I was pretty happy with the drivetrain, but the chassis, pivot points and quality of many components is inadequate. Although, some have better luck with them than others.

Don't get me wrong it was a blast and always had fun with it, but it is not the best performing or best value in my opinion and I've owned multiple brands of SxS's.

I know it is the best performing one out there that's why I got it. It is just frustrating at how much goes wrong with them so fast. I know they get drove hard since they are off road but man seems like they could make some of the stuff better so it lasts.

Are the wheel bearings sealed or not? I have not looked, I am going to let the dealer replace these under warranty but so I know for the future because if not I am going to see if a local place that specializes in bearings can get me some sealed heavy duty ones for the future.

I hear sbout wheel bearings and ball joints going out all the time and by far the majority involve water and mudding. I have over 2,500 hard miles in the desert on mine and have no issues with bearings or ball joints. I haven't even broken a hub. Just sayin'

I'd rather be riding in the desert than using Tapatalk!

aftermarket bearing for the rear is a Timken 510003 still tryn to cross the junk china made front bearing not having any luck even tried to use 2 bearings because they are really a double ball bearing anyway but not a lot of luck that way either crossed the drive shaft universal too the china crap universal doesn't hold up long the cross is a precision 338 and they are greaseable too

The models with Power steering have he QE visco lok which works great. I can, and have, climb anything and crawl anything I could in my rzr. The non-QE sucks and they did not offer the QE on 2013, which is another reason I waited. FYI QE is "quick engaging". It's as fast as the rzr system, but senses slippage between front tires as opposed to front to rear slippage to activate.

Since mine is a Max (4 seater), the engine is more between the rear passengers, so I can't speak to the heat on the two-seater. There is very little heat in the front of the Max. I've noticed many of the 2013 Maverick owners have placed some heat shielding materials on theirs, not sure if Can-am made changes there on the 2014's.

We only ride ours SxS's really from Fall through Winter and into Spring, so for us the more heat the better! I did wrap the exhaust on the Maverick as I don't like how close the pipes are to some plastic and the rear diff housing. I lowered my diff temp by more than 40 degrees as a result.

My RZR-S had little to no heat in the cabin, with the exception of home-made ******* heater mod. The XP has more cabin heat than the S. But like I said, for us, that's usually a plus.

Yes, people do tend to blow things out of proportion but I know from personal experience that there are heat issues on the ATV's. Mine is not bad as others for sure but you sure know there is heat in there!

If the Maverick motor is as warm as the 800 then I expect there will need to be more insulation added to the tunnel in-between the driver and passenger or it will be uncomfortable in the warmer months. Especially down here in the South!

wow lots of great info in here. yeah I am starting to see that there is a lot of issues with the rzrs. I mean they are an awesome machine and I love riding it but your right its like Polaris found the original 50" such a hit they just put a long travel kit on it and called it an S. I know my dad just bought a 2014 Kawasaki teryx and even that thing seems better built. The frame is beefier, the cage is beefier. I know that is more of a ranger type side by side but still.

Sorry to vent just get sick of breaking my brand new rzr. I understand stuff goes wrong and I understand mud and stuff is not good for it but they should have thought that people would take them in mud and had that in mind.

We will see how it goes, and how my father's teryx is. I have drove it and it is not as sporty as my rzr but has a ton of low end torque and not to mention it came with a factory 3 yr warranty.

Hopefully the rzr gets better. It just worries me that already I am having a lot of issues with it after 3 months. What is going to happen 3 yrs down the road. I mean I go on this forum and you see the following.

1. The wheel bearings are junk and go out regularly if in mud or water (apparently Polaris should have just made it 2wd so that would not have been an issue)

2. The stupid throttle vane sensor that is junk and intermittently could leave you stranded.

3. The ball joints are junk.

4. The bushings basically need to be replaced every 1000 miles or so.

5. The frame is weak

6, The front differential is weak with the plastic sprag

The list goes on and on. I guess I should have researched more. I am not saying I am going to sell my RZR, but it just sucks that something that is so fun is so delicate. I also can't see buying a maverick or something else because I had a hard time justifying 13k to my wife for a toy there is no way 16-18k will fly or spending another 3-4k.

And yeah I have done a lot of riding in 3 months I ride it 3 times a week usually for 2-3 hrs at a time and I am not mudding all the time I would say 1/10th of the time I mud or am in mud and I realistically have only went serious mudding 3 times in the machine.

The Japanese build quality is very good. I feel that BRP's is closer to this type of build quality when compared to Polaris and Arctic Cat. However, Polaris seems to be really hit or miss, some units are fine for thousands of miles, some fall apart or have catastrophic failure after 50 miles.

However, don't get down on your RZR! If something breaks build it back stronger and better, that's what I did on mine. They are a blast to drive and I think the engine and transmissions are great and generally will take all kinds of abuse. Some people love "the build" and some just want to ride as not everybody is a fabricator or engineer.

Eventually increased competition will be better for all of us riders with better all around products. Maybe we'll get a Japanese sport entry at some point that will take it up another notch.

I never was a polaris fan. Can't say I'm a "fan" now but I like the ride of my rzr and the way it feels when I sit in it. The maverick has more leg room but doesn't feel as comfortable sitting as the rzr. I'm sure we could beat them all down but the fact is they're expensive toys built for woods, mud or whatever....to me they're all good and bad.

Yeah I am starting to see that there is no side by side that is perfect in every aspect. I do feel like the RZR 800 S has everything I want performance wise, just it is a pain to work on some of the stuff and some stuff is lacking in durability.

I also never thought about how much abuse this stuff is really taking. I stopped and thought about it I regularly go across plowed fields at 50mph and you can just watch the suspension and tires bouncing all over. I am sure that is really tough on it.

I personally have never rode or drove or been in a can am, but I have sat in the rangers, the teryx, and my rzr. I have drove my dads teryx and it is fun but not the same as my rzr the seats are straight up and down and my leg hurts from running gas pedal.

This thread originally started with me venting about my rzr and has actually made me realize that stuff happens, and to actually sit down and think about the abuse. I could not imagine the suspension damage to my truck if I took off 50mph across a plowed field.

They all have their good points and bad points. I have driven just about every machine made, and for long periods of time, not just to the end of the driveway. Go over to the commander forum, and see what these guys have to pay for a routine service job. Like $450-600! Try putting aftermarket EPS on a commander, and tell me what you think at the end of the day.
Try changing the plugs, or the front diff oil on a wildcat 1000. It aint funny.
If one company built the perfect sxs, they would be the only one on the trails. Am I a fanboy? Yes, I guess so. My 09 has 6100 miles on the original rear wheel bearings. Yes, I did have to install the upgraded front hubs with the larger bearings, but that was 1500 miles ago, and they are still hanging in there.
Now, from a mechanics viewpoint, they all have good points and bad points. When a guy goes mudding every trip out, then the bearings fail, well what did you expect? I really think you see more gripes about the RZR platform, because they outnumber the competition by about 8 to 1. Just my .02
