This years race was 534 miles with 16 pitstops. The UTV class had 10 starters (9 pro & 1 sportsman) we had 5 finishers. The times are posted at BITD.com. We started in 8th position at 6:36 am and finshed at about 9:45 pm (14hrs 9min) on course. The UTV's start with the bike & quad group in the morning and the trucks & buggies start about 3hrs later. We got caught by the Lead trophy truck at about RM 380 late in the afternoon. after that only about 10 trucks & buggies caught us. We were very fotunate to have a super flawless race. We only changed one tire that had a small leak. Some of the carnage for the rest of the field included.
blown motor, fried ECU,tons of tires,at least two cluches, A-arm and mounting point damage, several belts, and countless other bent and broken parts.
Make no mistake, these races a very difficult to finish. I would like congratulate any team who got their race car to the finish. And I would like to thank all who follow along or support this sport in any way. The sport of Desert racing has a difficult road ahead. This weekends race proves that these events can be held in a safe manner while still providing great competitive racing.
