Underwhelmed by output from SSVworks box with Kicker sub

Installed the SSV Works RZ5-1KRC kit in my 21 Pro XP 4 last week, integrated with Ride Command and the factory Ultimate RF stereo system. It has the Kicker sub, not the SSV works one. I'm underwhelmed by the bass output on this unit, wanted to see what other's experience has been.

It definitely adds some low end, and sitting in the passenger seat right in front of the sub you can actually feel it. However, anywhere else (driver's seat, outside the car, etc) it just doesn't have much volume. I've played with the gain settings and bass boost on the amp, and the equalizer in RC and just can't get much output.

Figured maybe it was normal, but I camped with a few others this past weekend and it was a night and day difference in bass output in their rigs. Theirs sound fantastic, mine is just ok. Both of them are running similar under-glovebox boxes. One of them I think is actually an SSVworks box. Both are Wet Sounds subs and amps.

Are my expectations just too high for this setup? Is the amp undersized, or am I doing something wrong? I've set up several sub/amp combos in boats and cars before, very familiar with gain, boost, crossovers, etc and what they do. Just not sure how much I should expect from this setup or if there's anything else I can try to get more output here.

I just ran through the KEY gain match settings on the Kicker amp and even with the gain and bass boost both maxed out, I was not able to get the gain match light to light up. So is the issue with Ride Command having weak preamp output? Found model numbers on the amp and sub and they are appropriately matched. Sub is a dual 2 ohm voice coil unit, and they are wired in parallel. I verified 1 ohm load on the amp, which should give it 500 watts RMS.

I now have both the gain and bass boost maxed out on the amp and it sounds better, but still not there compared to the other rides from the last trip.

It’s very simple I’ve used there enclosure w 4 different subs
Ssv
Kicker
Jl 10w3
Jl 10w6. (Will fit if you make alterations)

all w and w/o poly fill

all powered by a JL mx500/1. None sounded good at all. Horrible. The enclosure just doesn’t have enough space.

If you want serious sound. You simply need the UTV stereo ported box. It’s absolutely incredible. I put a JL 10w6 and an epicenter to help out and it sounds absolutely incredible.

I'll take a look at that box, thanks for sharing your experiences.

Smaller sub would be a cool idea. I have 4 JL 8.8s behind my head so they have mid bass like a 6.5 sub. But I do agree.

I altered an SSV box to accept a W6 sub and that was ok. But putting a ported different box in made a crazy difference as well as epicenter to dial it in.
i would simply wait till UTV stereo or fosgate makes a ported box w yours. My UTV stereo box has like 1.5 cubes to use. It’s impressive

I will have to check that box out just because Iv never seen one . 1.5 is a huge box though so I’m curious . I’m an Old school audio guy, At 50 still like my music but I like discrete small systems that have good sq. I love the location Polaris done with the dash speakers and the tweet pods . It’s perfect because most the sound is kept inside the machine . In my Jeep I have a single 6.5 mini mojo in ported .7 cu tuned for around 40hz. Sounds amazing for such a small set up.

Yeah Iv noticed not much available for the pro yet. It Will take time I guess.. Iv even thought about a small sub in the pocket on the right side of the console . But for now I plan on swapping the sub out one more time and modify my current box.

I'm reading these post and I'm getting a bit discouraged about the stage 4 stereo review from you guys !!!

I'm looking at the SSV box at $429 cdn and I see on ebay the ride command set up for 1100 bucks Canadian!
I was thinking JL Audio sub and I'm using the MB Quart amps in my boat they seem to work well my buddy is using Certain Vega !

Is there a dash speaker pod and a rear speaker pod made for the Pro XP anywhere I can't seem to find any ?

I'm trying to stay on a budget if I can get ride command and a comparable or better sound than the stage 4 for $3000 Canadian I'd go that direction

Any recommendation it would be appreciated

I dunno if it's the box at this point. I have a buddy who has a Wet Sounds 10" sub in the same SSV box that I have and his sounds fantastic. Don't know other details of his setup, but there may be more to this than just the box being too small.

It’s definitely the box. Yes the wetsounds sounds decent, Because it demands less air space. I’ve put extreme amount of time into this box, and ditched it finally because it just doesn’t work.

I added baffles onto the face of mine. 2” worth, and packed w poly fill. Made a mode difference, but doesn’t even come close to the UTV stereo ported box. That thing is straight up nasty.

I'm hoping UTV starts working on a box for the Pro soon.

Call them up. Ask for Brandon. He’s a good dude. And very knowledgeable. I like him, not so much the owner. But I’m telling u. This box is a game changer. I’m a car audio car for 35 years. And this box finally made me happy. After spending over 10k trying to get there.

Meant to send the upgrade I did for the JL 10w6 sub and they all ended up coming through. Anyway the 2 pics is how I got a W6 to work. Added a little more airspace and made a nice difference
But the utv stereo box is 2.5x the size and ported and makes an incredible difference. I know what SQ is, I’m doing a Supra right now and doing a nasty SQ build. Gotta have the power first and good clean amps. The JL Mx amps work really nice. And the M6 JL speakers are killer.

I’m sure I will get a lot of laughs on this post, but I’ve had pretty good luck with my Rockville amp. It’s marine grade and I’m not even hesitant to spray it off with the pressure washer. Powers my two kicker km8 8” speakers plenty and looking at adding a sub. I actually had to turn the setting on the amp down because I was afraid to blow the speakers!

No shame in saving money . Especially for off road use . I do love high end stuff but I also like to save money when possible. A lot of the Rockville stuff is way better than people might think . At one point they had a 12” sub that was just as good as anything sundown made at less than half the price but discontinued now. Certain electronics I am a brand snob over but for most part I’m not. Hell im using a Dayton audio marine head unit. It’s a copy of the rockford and only 159$ and has backup camera option if needed.
It gets pressure washed along with everything else every time.
