Turbo Waste Gate

Hey you guys, I was expecting a kind of light clanking like sound from my turbo waste gate. I assume it has one any way. Is there a boost gauge you can install to see if the turbo is working right?

I kind of thought I might hear the sound of even a small waste gate if I was full on the gas and then full off. My new F-150 has the Eco Boost twin turbo engine in it, and except for huge power from a little engine you don't know it has turbos on it.

I have street raced a few turbo cars and you can hear the gate slam between shifts some times. if there next to you. Is this different?

Doesn't the Waste gate control the pressure of the turbo by a vacuum actuated arm. The Blowoff valve releases pressure on the boost side of the turbo when the throttle is shut by vacuum. When not in boost vacuum opens the BOV. My blow off valve bleeds pressure until WOT.

So are we talking about the waste gate or the BOV?

I know some waste gates vent to atmosphere but it doesn't on our RZRs

I had problems with my BMP BOV and their vent to atmosphere kit after 15 hours of use. At this point wish I went with different company now. It could have caused me a lot of money too. An o ring fell off the plunger and was found in the vent to air filter kit which also fell apart. When I email them about this issue and to ask for another o ring that fit tighter, they told me to source a new o ring from a local hardware store. If I didn't have the vent to air kit the o ring would have migrated to the turbo. Then possibly into the engine of it didn't mess up the turbo before hand. They did send me a replacement filter by the way.

I also purchased a slip on exhaust from them. When I received the exhaust it came with a bunch of sandy material in it which scuffed all the surfaces during the shipping process. Also the heat shield was bent. The exhaust looked old before it was installed. They sent me a new heat shield and I removed the old one and riveted on the new one my self. The powder coat on the new sheild is already flaking off. Pretty sad.

I think at this point maybe EVO would have been a better purchase since I feel the customer service from BMP is not what I would have expected. I would love to send back the products that have given me these problems and get them from someone more receptive to make things right.

I do like their adjustable clutch weights and the bully dog tuner with their tunes.

I hate posting stuff like this.
This is just a heads up and not a debate.

I doubt it. Most of the VW/Audi ones are setup for a max 20lbs of boost. With the rzr using a cvt I dont think most would even notice a difference. I'm using the Turbosmart Kompact setup for a VW and it works as good as a stocker that is working correctly. It is a little pricey though. Friends using the one I posted above work just as well.

if you are just after the sound you can vent your stock BOV to atmosphere. Just unhook the hose from the air intake and cap the opening. then put a crankcase vent on the hose from the BOV. Instant BRRAAAPPP....pshhhhhhhhh. I did it for 6$. if you are running through deep water or mud you will have to run that hose up past the water line or take the hose off completely.

I see exactly what you mean in the picture. But I was not interested in hearing the valve operate though its a cool sound I like very much. I was wanting to be sure my turbo was at work and hearing the valve would pretty much tell me.

But I got educated here in the forum on how they work in my case and as long as it keeps planting me in the seat when I punch it, I guess I don't need to hear a valve slam.

Actually springs in the BOV have a nothing to do with the boost. They just help to keep valve closed under vacuum. If you vent the BOV back to intake like the XPT do, you really don't need to be worry which spring to use. I vent the BOV to the outside with small K&N filter on outlet and using stiffest spring in the kit.
You get little more blow off noise with the stiffer spring.
