I searched the threads for a while but couldn't find an answer. My 09 800s transmission is frozen in park. It's on level ground in a building. I pulled it into the building a couple weeks ago and haven't touched it. I went out there this morning and it won't come out of park. I recently replaced the shifter cable (1 month ago), and it works fine if disconnected from tranny. I tried using a wrench, screwdriver and light hammer on the tranny lever but it wont budge. I've seen the post about the detent balls but I am having trouble finding the location. Attached is picture of my transmission. I do not have a bolt above the gear selector. I'm assuming I need to drain the fluid and see if anything comes out. Could the detent or spring be causing this? I've never really had an issue other than hard gear changes. When it's on level ground it always changed gears fine. When its in gear it runs great. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

There may be pressure against gears.
Engine off, brakes off, jack up rear of RZR so wheels are free to rotate, rotate wheel/axle forward/backward while trying to move transmission lever.

so my right rear tire was flat as well. It has slow leak. I aired it up and left the Rzr all day. Went and did what you said after dinner and bingo! Transmission shifts. I wonder if the fluid had just built up on the lower right side of the case from sitting at an angle for 2+ weeks. I'm going to change the fluid anyway. It has 3K miles on it and doubt the good ole boy I bought it from changed it. Give me something to do while it rains. Thanks for the help!

Explain hard gear change.
Does it;
1) Grind when going into gear, or
2) Hard to get out of park when on an incline?

doesn't grind unless the rpm's are above 1250ish and you try and change gears. Incline for sure. Sometimes I have to rock it to change gears. Only when it's running though. When the engine is off it floats through the gears no problems.

Hard shifting at idle speed: Primary clutch bearing may need cleaning/replacing.
Take a look at Todd's video on RZR 800 clutch parts, and browse his threads for excellent information and recommendations.

Hard shifting out of park on an incline is a common problem.

With the engine OFF, and machine on level ground, it should shift with light to moderate effort on the shift lever. It wouldn't matter if the belt was on upside down or inside out during this test. If it still takes a lot of effort, then you likely have a detent ball issue. It's located on the side opposite from the shift cable attachment point. A real gem to get to.

Its not hard to shift when the engine is off, luckily. It's shifting fine now. I have no idea what caused it to lock up other than the low tire which might have shifted the transmission fluid. Random guess by me though

More likely that the low tire had let the rzr rmove backward or forward enough that it put pressure on the trans.

Well it’s definitely something in the transmission. Went out and started it today. Same thing. Frozen stiff. It’s below freezing here. So I’m guessing the previous owner ran it thru mud/water and some got into the transmission. I took a heat gun to warm the case and thaw it out.

Good news is my shift lever moves now. Bad news it’s stuck in Park. At least it’s on a trailer where I can take it to someone to figure out what’s wrong.

Anyone have a guess?
