I have never heard of them until now.

 

I haven't Had any experience with them, but i guess if you didn't have a winch or maybe got stuck where there wasn't a winch point they may come in handy?

 

If you do a lot of solo riding in areas where you might not find a winch point then...maybe. I can't see these getting you out of a spot much worse than a person could push you out of. I have no actual experience with these so I could be wrong.
