Torn between non turbo or turbo

Looking at a new 4 seater. There will be a lot of weight in the rzr. Going to use it in dunes and street/desert in az sometimes. I can get a new 1k4 non turbo 19k. New 1k4 turbo 25. Wise to get non turbo and add aftermarket turbo later?

Have you driven the new one yet ? It's pretty dialed, but I know nothing about aftermarket turbos.
If you can afford it now, I'd get the Turbo for sure. Like mentioned, it has upgraded parts on the turbo model vs. non turbo model and it has a warranty. Adding an aftermarket turbo will void your warranty, I would think.
Buy the extended warranty with it, you can get the non factory ones for $1000 and it has a ZERO Deductable and starts after the factory 6 month warranty expires. No BRAINER really, as long as you can swing it..... Good luck with your purchase.

I think they way I'd look at it is:

1. Do you want to be a guinea pig and help Polaris figure out what they need to change in next years model, since this is a first year for their turbo.

2. Do you want to have bragging rights of having the latest greatest model currently available?

I would think getting the factory turbo would be easier to enjoy. While the aftermarket stuff can be pretty impressive, you have to either learn to work on it yourself, or try and find someone that understands the kit you purchase. You also will have to deal with the hassles of upgrading components as they fail or underperform.

Polaris made a lot of changes when they designed their turbo model. For example, the reason the displacement is only 925cc, is they increased the bearing journal size to accommodate the extra stresses caused by the turbo. This made them have to decrease the stroke due to the larger journal. The transmission, clutching, and suspension has also been upgraded too. Best of all, you can still have a factory warranty. Just my 2¢...

When we looked at it we did the pro's & cons. The upgraded trans, brakes, suspension, cooling system, turbo & clutch system were hard to pass up for 6K. Now you can add an aftermarket turbo kit with upgraded cooling system & upgraded clutching system but you will be well north of that 6k figure. It would be fast but there are other downsides as others have mentioned.

Unless you have an excellent dealer service department and a good relationship with the service manager then the warranty is a joke. Polaris seems to literally take a few days to try and find a way to decline a claim rather than just taking care of the customer. Many people have had excellent results with the warranties but seems to be the exception rather than the rule.

Factory turdo all the way... With all the upgraded components... Well worth it...

Personally I hate these things we love to ride... I did have money in the bank... LOL...

Let me say this... You spend it now and have a grin ear to ear every time you strap yourself in... Or begin with spending less... Then more then more and still not have it...

Better to spend a bit more and then have to live with that dam grin knowing you have more then you need... Rather then need more and not have it...

My 2.5 cents..

Well... except that an aftermarket Turbo 1000 would whoop on an XPT like a red headed stepchild in the power department.

XPT 4 seater has great features but let's be honest with ourselves, for $25k it certainly lacks in HP, and HP is king in the dunes.

I agree with Duner2, if I was buying without something in the garage I'd buy a factory turbo. But like him, I have an xp4 1000 already with to much $$ sunk in it to start over. I'll be adding a turbo this summer.

Sent from the dune in front of you

i agree with previous statements,i have a 14 1k 140 tricked out upgraded shocks seats cage i would never get rid of my turbo 1k for a factory turbo, just to end up putting a aftermarket turbo on my factory turbo.however if you dont have a xp then it makes all the sense in the world to buy the xpt,if u plan to leave the engine stock.imo the oem polaris pistons & rods are not better than cp rods pistons in a 1K
