Tips for removing stuck on cv joint

I am wondering if anyone has any tips on how to get off a stuck CV joint? I got the boot cut off and need to get the joint off because I need to replace the boot. I clamp the axle in a vice and use a brass drift and hit the inner race and it will slide a tiny bit and then get stuck. I then drive cv back on and try working it and it won't come off. I even tried using a heavy 3lb deadblow hammer I have and just hitting the inner star deal as hard as I can with the axle clamped in but it is like the retaining clip is hanging it up. I tried a couple times carefully with a 3lb hammer too and it won't budge. Any tips or tricks? I thought of cutting the outer race and busting off the outer race and then I could pull clip out when I pulled axle stub off? Can you get just the CV joint or the outer stub piece or do you have to get the entire axle? The dealer put 2 new axles on under warranty because they could not get it to move, they gave these to me well I wanted to fix them and put the boots on so I had 2 spare axles. I figured worst case if I couldn't get the end I would still have an axle shaft and hopefully if I broke an axle I could reuse the stub shaft and just slide it on this axle.

Use lots of panther piss if the socket is dry. (WD40) Clamp the CV in the vice. Grab the axle and jerk the hades out of it. It should pop out with some work. You got the right idea but its the axle shaft you have to jerk on to get it apart.

I have had a biotch of a time removing cv joints also.
What normaly works is to just hang onto the axle shaft verticaly by hand. and then lightly tap the cv joint on all sides. You need to compress the clip onto the shaft so that it goes into the splined star shaped piece. If you hit it to hard with a hammer it seems to not line up and binds.

Hope this helps.

You have to take apart the cv joint
There's a c clip if you angle the cv down take it out angle it down to get the ball bearings out then the axel and end of cv will come out of the cv cup and you can press it off from there
Easy but messy
As far as I know polaris only sells axels as a complete unit

I use a slide hammer that slides over splines on cv joint..the key is to stand axle up in vise so circlip is center, I usually slam it like your knocking it on couple times to help release clip then try removing it, problem with brass punch is your only hitting one side at a time..hope this helps, on slide hammer just took some square tubing drilled hole big enough to go over splines on one end, on other end welded nut that slide hammer would screw into..works great..
