Well I have now put just around 4 hrs. on my new xp1k and have a bent passenger side rear shock. I talked to walker evans service department and they stated that the new shock from Polaris will come with a harder shaft. They also recommended that I try to get all 4 shocks replaced while it is in for the warranty on the bent shock. Now I am just waiting to hear back from Houfpauir where I bought it from. Has anyone had any luck getting all 4 shocks replaced after bending just one shock? Please advise

"Anything Crazy" is Relative. was that 4 hours of woops, just cruising on flat roads, some jumps etc.... What were you doing when it bent?

I feel like I should go out and see if I can bend mine so I can get them replaced before the warranty is up....

Build date is 8/20/13. I have had it for a week and a half. I was riding on a make shift track at a friend house. Nothing to extreme. Yes there was some jumping but nothing more than about 2 ft above the ground with a down slope for the landing. Buddy was on his 900 xp and he was riding way harder than I was. Hopefully they will get it all sorted out. It happened after about 6 laps. The guy at walker evans assured me that the new replacement shock will have a harder shaft and it will solve this problem. I hope they will replace all the shock. Seems like it would be in there best interest to do so bc of all of the other suspension parts that get damaged and have to be replaced due to the shock failure. Guess we will see. Glad I purchased the extended warranty to cover everything after the factory warranty is up. Just sucks to have a new machine that I cant ride and the buddy of mine has a 2013 xp 900 that has been through hell and back with no problems. I have the newest and the so called best that is broke and now I have to listen to him talk crap

This would be a good time for the company to step up and replace all the "weaker" shocks before they fail to keep you guys happy. You guys bought the early models expecting to have the best of whats out there and thats what you should have imho

Too many shock issues....And one of the reasons we all paid $20K was for this awesome suspension. that's turning out to be not so awesome.... Polaris needs to step up and do a recall and replace everyone's shocks. Not fair to plan a dez trip, take time off, spend the money and time getting there only to get out there and bend a shock on your first ride and ruin your whole trip. Come on Polaris get it handled or we'll all get together and handle it another way.

I don't understand why they haven't issued a full recall instead of re-placing these bent shafts on a case by case basis. I'm sure they're aware of the problem and it's time to step up and fix these mistakes it's going to bite both companies in the long run. I'm hoping the 2015 RZR XP1000 comes with Fox shocks because it's becoming obvious WE quality is hit and miss. A lot of RZR owners knows ball joints, wheel bearings, and tie rod ends wear out quickly now we have to worry about shocks folding. haha

I can't believe WE is charging people who purchased a new XP1k...

This is my first rzr and I love it besides the shock problems. I doubt they will replace all 4 but he'll it's worth a shot. I should no something tomorrow and will be sure to let everyone know what I find out. I not I am going to talk to the service guy at walker Evans and see if I can get them to upgrade the shaft even if I have to pay. I payed what I did bc I wanted something I could use not something that is going to be sitting at the dealer waiting to be fixed. Just frustrating knowing I could have saved money but I didn't bc polaris is supposed to be the best. Sorry for the rant but I have a payment coming up on something that is in the shop and will be again if they don't replace them all, hopefully it all works out. I really do like the machine just want to be able to use it

What about the mounting geometry of the shocks. I find it hard that a company who makes shocks is now having problems with shocks bending. I have not heard of anybody having problems with the WE on their 900's. I didn't have a problem with mine. I have kings now. They made the 1000 wheel base 10" longer which would change the mounting point . Please correct me if I am wrong. Is it only one side that is bending? Was there a passenger?

It was my passenger side and no one was on that side. Just the driver. If the new updated shock comes with a 7/8" shaft I am going to have a big problem with polaris if they don't replace them all so they match. As for the geometry of the suspension I have no idea but WE themselves told me that the shaft tensile strength was too low. Not sure why they didn't check that before but who knows.

This is total garbage.i dont even own a 1k and it pisses me off! Polaris knows its garbage, even if they dont make the shocks, they still sold them to you.so they are responsible.walker evans has made a huge mistake with this. How could tensile strength/hardness slip by your quality control? Hell, the shaft is half the shock!...they should replace everybodys free of charge asap!.......now that everyone knows about this, its only a matter of time before somebody gets injured and what a lawsuit thats gonna be!! For 20k polaris, step up !
Polaris puts out a drawing with a description of what they want and @ $xxx amount to venders for bids. Sometimes the aftermarket company's have to make sacrifices to get to that price point. So is it the aftermarket manufacture or the OEM design engineers fault for failer  I would almost guarantee you that the engineers over @ WER had other opinions of what was needed without compromises. When is the last time you have heard of someone buying a factory built Fox, WER, King, Ohlins, Works ect shock and having issues like this ? Why, because buying from the shock mfg you're getting their no comprises best.....

I felt the same way when the non-heat treated rear axles on my 2011 XP900 bent like many others. Polaris replaced the two bent rears, but wouldn't replace the fronts as preventive measure.

Now I'm told that the extended PoPo warranty doesn't cover axles. If one of my "soft" axles bends/breaks, now I'm on my own.. :(

Hope your texas dealer takes good care of you, they have with me in the past.

I wonder if Polaris will offer a warranty on these since WE says there are better shocks available.

Pay 25K for a machine that falls apart WTF

IMO its all on Polaris...We dont even know if WE even touched the shocks, or had any say in what materials where used to make them, maybe they just sold Polaris the design or sticker (Walker Evans name) and they had them made in China. Maybe WE made everyone in-house I dont know but I do know if Ford or Chevy have a issue with a part put on one of their vehicles and they sell it to the public and there is a performance issue or recall issue who gets the blame and who fixes the issue.....Ford or Chevy. Just my 2 cents

This sucks. I sure hope the xp4 1000 have updated shocks so not everyone has to go through this. But it tells me that there was a bad run because as many demo rides that they had with no shock issues tells me in full production something happened in the shock manufacturing.

I bet walker Evans tries to step up regardless if it was to their specs or not because it's their name riding on the shock.

We certainly hope so.
It's early enough in production where they easily can.

There are more problems than the bending. Many of those problems still un-resolved.
If W.E. doesn't step up and polish their image we'll avoid them in the future.

It's on both Polaris and W.E. but ultimately WE is the OEM vendor with the most to lose and has to come through.

This will most definitely boost King's sales at least here on the West coast where the SxS market keeps reaching new levels of popularity.
Couldn't have happened at a better time for King.

Didn't I see some post on here somewhere popo has a place on their site. Would it benefit all of us to start posting about the shocks. I agree this is a serious liability for popo. replacing a few shocks they probably paid $100 bucks for is nothing compared to a few injuries resulting in large lawsuits??? Can you tell im from Jersey!

Frank (FJK) can you make this thread a sticky so we can all can continue to be updated?

I have plans on purchasing an XP4 1000 at the beginning of the year and I hope that I'm not spending 25k for bad suspension. WE or POPO will step up it's just a matter of time but if the issues aren't addressed I could see Polaris going to Fox or King on the next rzr which Walker Evans does not want.
