Tach Wire

I've read all the topics I could find on the subject but none of them gave a definite answer as to which wire it is. I've also checked the back of the service manual and I can not find the answer in there either.

So does anyone know which wire going into the cluster is the Tach wire?

There isn't a specific tach wire.

This is the pinout at the rear of the cluster:(function, pin #)
CAN High, 1
CAN Low, 2
Switched Power (Vdc), 3
Constant Power (Vdc), 4
Ground, 5
High Beam Input, 8
Fuel Level Sensor, 11
International Models Only:
Turn Signal Input, LH, 6
Turn Signal Input, RH, 7

CAN is a message based system, as opposed to a simple voltage based system.

If you're trying to add a tachometer, you might need to first purchase a tach driver and connect it to the coil or injector wires, and then use it's tach output for your tach. It has been awhile since I shopped aftermarket tachs, so you might be able to find one that has a build in tach driver.

Thanks for the info. I seen that in the back of the service manual but wasn't sure what the can high and low were. And I've seen a few posts where people have added tachs.

I have a 2" tach from Speedhut, and according to the directions i can tie it in a few different ways. one of them being just hooking it to the coil which looks like might be the easiest way to go now.
