Great thread guys, I am about to get a RZR 4 for the family and want to confirm that the RZR can run all the sholders of the roads just like an ATV correct? Does that include the Jeep trails up in the Roscommon area? Thanks

Yup, 20mph on the shoulder of all roads excluding state highways, snowmobile trails are considered seasonal roads. If by jeep trails you mean the orv routes that have the mixed traffic signs then yes, its allowed on those too.

Yeah, orv sticker covers you for all of that, if you get it plated then you don't have to stay on the shoulder and you don't have to worry about the 20mph speed limit on the snowmobile trails.

I'm gonna street legal mine also and ive done alot of research even on other sxs forums.Seems straight forward.the title is gonna be an assembled pickup and get a reissued 17 digit vin and if sos says they are gonna have an inspector from lansing inspect it then tell them to forget it and goto another sos, windshield doesnt have to be dot,the horn can be a reg.bike horn that has the air bubble that you squeeze, there is a thread on here for the emergency brake using a clamp,im gonna use a hand operated wiper, blinker set,my fogs work as bright lights as i have a lighted toggle, dot tires and there is also a thread on here that someone got a set of 15"with rims for a lil over $400,light for plate,"safety"glass as I have 1/4"lexan just says no plexi and thats understandable cuz that will shatter, outside driverside rearview mirror and bumpers.Everything else it already has.Im doing mine just to run upto the store or just around town a lil bit and would be great after a good trip to drive it upto the quarter car wash all muddy.form tr-54.yeah and the tax thing to get their money.
I'm Curious how you made out with your quest to street legal your unit. In particular were you able to get around the Dot windsheild issue, I know the TR 54 says no plexiglass but it also says safety glass were you able to prove it's safety glass somehow? I'm working on getting mine there since I found out I'm limited to sides of County roads and orv trails. I am interested in going down those state land rds (2 tracks) that you can only go down if your plated.

I just have 1/4" lexan for windshield. Didn't have to prove anything. Actual plate and tab came in the mail yesterday. It's the Vanity plate "Proud to be American " took a week or so to get. A woman came out couple weeks ago and put new vin on the frame.

I beleive that's what I have, was hoping to get away with that for a windsheild. Were did you get the rest of your stuff like wipers, washers ect. I'm building my own turn signals, picked up a horn and motor cycle switches for lights turn signals and horn from ebay ($15). Windsheild, wipers and washers is my next hurtle. Oh btw were did you get it inspected and what sosm how did they register it?

I also have a lexan window - I made it so there is no DOT stamp. I didn't have to prove anything either. I also used a manual wiper off off Amazon and a window wash tank / pump / sprayers / hose /switch - all in a kit from NAPA for around $30. Fit perfect under the hood - fairly small tank. I used aftermakeket snowmobile side mirrors - easy mount (adjustable) $20 a piece. I had a few sets of tires and sold my Bighorns - that paid for my new tires. I put on DOT General Grabbers AT2's. Outside of that - going street legal cost me between $500-$600 including fees and temp plate at SOS. My local dealer just converted a new RZR 900 4 seated they have for sale - they charged around $3000 for the conversion. If you do your homework and do it yourself it wont cost a fortune. For inspection I got a a pretty nice cop - mostly checked out the mirrors, blinkers, and lights. He checked that I had secondary (bright) lights that could be turned on and off. He made sure my
tires were DOT. I had a folder with all the paperwork (receipts) and my title. He asked if I had my title - but never asked to look at any of the paperwork. Went pretty smooth. I still have my temporary plate. It's been around a month since I got my new registration and plate. SOS said it would be 4-6
weeks before I got my title. I've put about 300 miles on it since and have passed several cops and havnt got pulled over. A couple of them did a double take and caught their attention - but never stopped me. It was well worth it for me - been a blast so far.....

has anyone had a problem with the rear end getting damaged from riding it on the pavement and turning too sharp? because it is a "locked" rear end, is it strong enough to handle the stress from too much traction?

I've put quite a few miles on the street and havnt had any problems - I do take corners easy and swing as wide as possible. If i jump on the throttle at all its going straight. The rear diff doesn't seem to run any warmer than usual - even on a hot day. I'm sure if you were running really hard, on the gas hard making sharp turns all the time your cv's would definitely make some noise from wear after a while. As I said I havnt had any problems, and had quite a few miles on my RZR before I hit the street.........

Same here about the cops look twice and are probably thinking"should I turn around, nah he waved it's gotta be legal"lol. 90% of ppl I pass have a dumbfounded look on their face and wherever I stop I always get asked about it. Same about 300 miles.

The last cop we passed right downtown looked pretty shocked when we passed him. He hit his brake lights and I thought for sure he was gonna turn around. But he kept going. I told my son the same thing - that cop must have thought nah, he's gotta be street legal, he can't be that stupid. Haha. The looks on people's faces is priceless. A lady at the gas station asked me if it was a type of Smart car. I said no its a Polaris, she said who makes that Chrysler?? WOW I finally said yeah they just came out Lol
