I had my new-to-me 800 on a couple of 50 mile rides. The second one was over some tougher terrain and the stock seat was less than comfortable. The middle of the back part has a distinct bulge that rubs on my lower back.

I'm considering a few ways to address this situation:

1. After-market seat
2. Have my local upholstery guy reshape the seat back
3. Add some type of cushion or pad on the stock seat

I was wondering what others have done to address the situation. I'm hesitant about the after-market seat since it will be a shot in the dark whether it will be significantly better. Something I won't be able to determine without seat time.

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

I am in the same situation, sat in a guys Beard seat and was nice but so many choices and so many prices! will be following.

I installed late model seats in my 2010 and 2011. They are much better than the old stock seats. Takes a little adapting but well worth it. Take out seats are available from the owners that bought the aftermarket seats.

I went to an an off road show and sat in a bunch of aftermarket suspension seats to see which ones were most comfortable. Also added long travel with aftermarket shocks. No lower back problems during or after riding since.

I'm right there with you. I have back problems as well, and after several hours of riding, I can barely get out/in of the machine. Widening the suspension and adding good shocks makes a HUGE difference, but it's still rough. A lot of people have installed 1000 seats and like them. This seems to be one of the easiest/ cheapest ways to improve the ride. There are several places that make adaptors to make them fit in our 800's. I want to put a set of 1000 seats in mine, but I need to keep the sliders, and as far as I can tell, nobody makes an adaptor with sliders.

Like I mentioned, my issue was pretty specific...that raised section of the seat back rubbing on my lower spine area.

I decided to start with the cheapest fix first...doing my own mods. I removed the seat cover and shaved down the raised section that was causing me pain. The cover just slips back on and isn't loose or wrinkled. That was a good start.

As I sat in the modified seat another issue became apparent: The angle and position of the lower part of the seat slid my butt into the opening between the back and seat sections. I'm on the small side, 160lbs, and that is a factor. I modified the lower portion in two ways. I moved the frame of the lower section back 1 3/8". That took drilling holes in the square tubing and adding a tab to the front bolts. I also raised the rear of the lower seat section about 1 1/2". The gap between the lower seat and seat back is reduced. Raising the rear part made me sit up a little taller.

With the three mods I no longer have that pressure point on my back, and I'm not being wedged into the open between the seat back and lower sections.

I have these in my 900xp, don't believe using the sliders (factory) would be a problem. Call them and ask. I made the modification on my 800 by welding square tubing on to existing factory mounts and have the slider on the drivers seat.

Damn, first time I've seen those. That might be the ticket for me !!!

So they just bolt onto a stock 800 base, AND bolt onto a 1000 seat ?? What did you need to add square tubing to ?

Damn, first time I've seen those. That might be the ticket for me !!!

Nothing else required with the Long Horn adapters.

Square tubing is if you DIY mods on the seat.

Remember if you have and 800 the ride is not very good due to lack of suspension travel. Even the S model still lacks.

lol....Trust me, I know. BUT I have made it MUCH better with a long travel kit, and 900 shocks. A friend has one very similar to mine, and he has had some shock work on his 900 shocks. The ride is amazing for an 800. I don't think an 800 can get any better ride than his setup. I just can't justify $1,200 for shock work though.

I've spent $1200 on alot less worthy things! Lol! My comfort and enjoyment is kinda priceless to me. I'm running Racertech springs and Shock Therapy valving on my oem Fox Podiums. I can honestly say the valving made as much or more difference than the springs. However I am having a hard time justifying $1100-1200 for the Duraclutch set-up I really, really want! I will add a good set of suspension seats makes a world of difference also. Not cheap by any means, but what is your comfort and enjoyment worth to you?
