Steering rack Q's, need help!

I've been working on and replacing dang near all oem parts on my 08' 50". Only things that are left which I have, paper filter, oil change and front steering rack adjustment.
I got the 'I'll help ya' from friends, who sold theirs and or it came down to it, they have no F'N clue! So I started myself and so far happy with its outcome, but have a couple questions to cut some corners as I have put more time and $$ in it, thanI have put hours and miles on! Just a money pit so far lmao!

The steering rack is off. I can turn sharp right, 26 point to left! I have superATV front end, hub conversation, HD tie rods etc. Once this is done, I can align it within reason and use it instead of conversation piece.
I do not want to take it out! Is it possible to break the tie rods loose, screw them in, and turn the wheel and count lock to lock to center? Or within reason? Strap it down, then install tie rods and adjust from there!

Yup, the lazy way, but I have spent enough time and money that if it don't start paying off in smiles, down the road it will go! I have learned a lot reading threads and manual over and over, but there has to be a easier way. Lock to lock, split difference and pop off steering wheel and re center, is my hopeful lan!
Sorry for the rant, but should have looked into rzr's more before buying, I'm a custom tube chassis kinda guy and what I'll ultimately end up with. But gotta start somewhere and if I knew now just how much, um yeah!

Any help would be great! With limited time now, I just want to load and go, or just go for a ride and have a semi reliable machine to enjoy with my son! Thanks

Yes take to outer tie-rods loose from the knuckles. Then turn the steering wheel all the way to the one side or the other. Then all the way to the opposite side, counting the turns it takes. Then go back half those turns, that is your center. Then adjust your tie-rods to get your alignment. Also you may need to take your steering wheel off after you get it aligned if you want it centered. That's one of my pet peeves!

Took it out today for a shake down run, what a disappointment! New boot has two holes in it already and spewing grease! These thing are flat out unreliable!
Drove home at 10mph after a evening cruise, took three hours but made it! I adjusted the steering, everything cleared and lock to lock no problem, new 'superatv' steering rack with road miles only!
The whole inner joint that threads to the steering rack pulled straight out! Call me stupid, but guses I'll have to throw more money toward SATV chit! From the pics, is there anything I failed to do?
Have their arms, rhino shafts, small lift but only 26" tires plus their steering rack. Is it worth buying again, or same problem will happen?!?! Thanks for any advice!

So it pulled the thread out? Or did it unthread itself? And which SATV rack didi you purchase?

Or did the tierod tube come off the inner joint?

It broke at the big joint that threads into the steering rack itself! Then I have HD tie rods that connect to that etc. That's whatso hanging, if I would have had tools, could have maybe cobbled it to make home. But of all bags, I grab the non tool bag for, but only hard surface and gravel.

It's the rackboss or the big HD version that's supposed to be 65% bigger. But also seems 25% weaker! All I did was turn around in a staging area where it was grass/dirt after stopping for a few, off camber a little but herd a pop, then no reaction from steering wheel to tire movement.

No warranty on it, or out of I should say. So that's no option. Boot wise, I'm getting out the ultra black and if that don't work, new boots with a glue or sealant under to seal them 100% band and all!
I'm at a loss! I have more $$ in it than drive time, machine hours! I must just be hard on stuff to kill it everytime out!

So it broke the inner joint. I thought maybe when you had adjusted your toe, you had possibly not left enough threads holding the tube to the inner joint. If warranty is out of the question, then I probably wouldn't look at another SATV rack. Maybe Wicked Built or even oem.

I've heard LOTS of people having issues with SATV racks lately. Their quality seems to have gone way down hill the last couple years. I've got a SATV rack on mine that has almost 3000 miles on, and just stripped out on me. I wanted to back with SATV (got a ton of their parts), but I couldn't take the chance with everything I've been hearing. So I've got a Rackzilla rack sitting in the garage, that I'm hoping to install this weekend.

The Rackzilla seems to be well built. I replaced the rack on my old 800 4 seater with the Rackzilla. And I have a friends Ranger crew in my shop torn apart right now, he ordered a Rackzilla for it last night.

Mines the heavy duty unit that's supposed to be 65% beefier! It's a flat out POS!

I'm to the point, just gonna fix and sell the piece of junk. I hadon't and have more fun in a jeep anyway, I went where they went beforehand, just not legally! Back to a 1%er I go!

Plus the fact, SATV! They sell ya rhino shafts, then come out with a better one? WTF? :rm_thumbdown: They need to get their crap together like rcv! They told me on rhino buy once, why did you come out with 'stronger' 2.0? RCV don't pull that, nor does any other utv dealer to extents that SATV does.

I think I have reached the limit of wasting money on this. I can't even road drive it with out coming home with a 'fix' of some kind, usually a boot that just got replaced! Couple more pics

I think you are just buying the wrong brand of parts. I don't buy anything satv that is an important part. I learned the hard way with their radius rods when I owned my 900 xp. I adjusted and adjusted and adjusted until I finally figured out that the rod was actually flattening out while I was riding. Total junk. Never bought anything important from them again. I did just buy their spare tire carrier for my 1k but haven't installed due to it being at the dealer for an oil leak and other issues.

That looks like the inner tie-rod just unscrewed from the rack. It should have had thread locker on it from the factory. From the pic it dont look like it has any on the threads. Thats not where you turned it to adjust the alignment is it???

I've never touched the rack itself, just the outer tie rods. Broke both lock nuts per side loose and aligned it! I did center the rack while they were off, lock to lock, then moved steering wheel straight.
The inner just pulls right back out if screwed in. Tried it twice and second time the inner joint hit hard and is stuck in that position. I never touched it or anything.

The more I read about their products, I'm glad I didn't dump it all in! But just the same chasing down all these nickel and dime fixes! From know on I'm gonna stay away and or fix and sell. Just not what I expected, and have found I need arms. So might as well sell and buy what I need. I don't know. ..... just disappointed is all!

It's a pain fixing somebody else's problems, but at least when you're done, it's done the way YOU want it. Besides, you're going to be fixing something, regardless.

When I started changing out my steering box, I found a shot diff bearing. It's always something !!!!

Exactly! That's why I have let it sit, one problem turned into a ton, and I wanted it my way! I guess when it's completely fixed, my way, I'll be more than happy.

I'll figure something out and go from there. Just a headache lol!

Yea I know what you mean, its always something else to repair or upgrade. After 3 years of fixing weak links, I'm getting closer to having mine where I want it! Lol! But I still need to upgrade the steering rack too! After all your trouble, I'm leabing toward the Wicked Built Rackzilla.

It's like I get it done, do my happy dance :ride:! Go for a short cruise on road or not, get back and something in ripped, broke or leaking ! Like a big kick to the sack, back to the drawing board!

Been looking into the wicked built unit, only $48 more than what is supposed to be super strong. The WB uses automotive parts in their rack, I think I'm going to go with them too. Looks more promising
