Steering Rack Install Struggle

Hello All,

My steering rack went out on my 2016 Trail (would only turn left). I bought a Polaris RZR 900 RackBoss 2.0 Rack and Pinion from SuperATV to replace. While the old rack was a pain to get out, I am really struggling to get the new rack in with the correct orientation. Even though the SuperATV rack does not have the studs preinstalled, the spline is at least 1/8" taller than the old spline. I don't see how there is enough clearance to get it in there properly. Any advice would be appreciated.

I ended up having to disconnect the front diff and move it forward in order to get the orientation correct. Now I have the spline installed and it doesn't want to line up properly with the frame, again fighting that 1/8" taller spline. If the bolt on the steering shaft isn't installed then the splined shaft will slide up far enough to line up with the frame, but then the slot in the shaft isn't lined up with the bolt. I really didn't think this would be so much of a struggle.

Final update. It's done. I'll be damned if I could repeat it, but the following is what worked.

1. connect steering shaft, put bolt in at the correct position.
2. put the long bolts in on the drivers side and tape them so they don't fall out
3. loosely connect short bolts on the passenger side to the frame
4. If you disconnected the front diff from the frame, tighten it back up again so it no longer moves around.
5. Swear, turn the steering wheel to different positions, swear more, pry and push and pull until finally for some reason one of the long bolts finally aligns with the frame
6. Get all those long bolts in and button everything up

If you ever have to do this job I hope the stars align better for you than they did for me.

In case you forgot some....
If you have ever installed a rack in an old Ranger 800, you have surely used all of these in the first 5 minutes. That install will have you swearing in other languages, and eventually creating a plethora of your own words and combinations.
